Iris Nieuwenburg
Iris Niewenburg was born in 1972 in Bergen aan Zee in the Nederlands. After technical training in Schoonhoven as a goldsmith and silversmith, she studied jewellery design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and later received an MFA at the Sandberg Institute Amsterdam. The narrative jewellery of Iris Nieuwenburg refers to the aesthetics and the design of the rococo style. She uses vintage jewellery, old pictures, doll house cutlery and other miniatures to create collages that capture a certain mood and time spirit. Images of French 18th century interiors, delicate silver candelabras, miniature china and soft coloured bouquets makes you think of a world lost in time. Exclusively represented in the United States by Droog USA, the work of Iris is also featured in the collections of Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim, Germany and in the Centraal Museum Utrecht in the Netherlands.
