Atelier Bow-Wow
Atelier Bow-Wow is a Tokyo-based firm founded by Yoshiharu Tsukamoto and Momoyo Kaijima in 1992. The pair's interest lies in diverse fields ranging from architectural design to urban research and the creation of public artworks. While on one hand the practice has designed over 20 detached houses, public museums and commercial buildings mainly in Tokyo, in recent years it has increased its projects abroad to France, Denmark and the USA. The seminal publication on small architecture in urban Tokyo; 'Pet Architecture Guidebook', and the analysis of Tokyo's anonymous hybrid architecture; 'Made In Tokyo', were both published in 2001, marking the practice’s initial moves into urban research. These were followed with work abroad; concerning the 13th arrondissement of Paris, and work in Japan; focusing on, amongst others, the cities of Mito, Fukuoka, Tsukuba and Kanazawa. These studies have extended and developed into the experimental projects named micro-public-space that propose a new concept of the public space, and have been exhibited across the world as part of events such as Biennales in Sao Paolo, Venice, Istanbul and Liverpool. In 2009 the practice’s first solo exhibition outside Japan; ‘Atelier Bow-Wow / Small Case Study House’ was held at the REDCAT Gallery in Los Angeles.
