The duo Cathelijne Montens (1978) and Krijn Christiaansen (1978) start their design process with field research. When finished, the object or project merges into the physically analysed surrounding. As a matter of fact, the surrounding co-creates the object. The bird-house ‘Vogellokding’ (in the Droog Design collection since 2006) is only complete after a bird takes place on the branch, as an actor in a tableau vivant. The winded donut ‘Urban Mutualism #2’ (Dry Tech 3, 2007) inevitably needs an existing lamppost to be kept in place and to provide light for reading at night.
