Sam Hecht was born in London in 1969 and studied at the Royal College of Art where he graduated in 1993. He spent some time at IDEO before becoming independent and forming Industrial Facility with partner Kim Colin and senior designer Ippei Matsumoto.
Named one of contemporary design’s most quietly effective and thoughtful practices by the Financial Times, Industrial Facility considers and designs objects of varying purpose in relation to their spatial, cultural and performative landscapes.
Hecht’s commissions have come from LaCie, Issey Miyake, Muji, and Herman Miller where he is creative advisor. In 2008 he became a Royal Designer for Industry while also being short listed for the Prince Phillip Design Prize. The work of Industrial Facility is included in the permanent collections of MoMA New York, Centre Pompidou, Paris, State Museum of Applied Arts in Munich, The Israel Museum in Jerusalem and the Museum Fur Kunsthandwerk in Frankfurt.
