Philippe Malouin was born in Montreal. He currently lives and works in London. After completing Industrial Design studies in Montreal and then at the ENSCI in Paris, he interned at the studio of Tjep in Amsterdam. He continued his studies at the Design Academy Eindhoven, the Netherlands, where his graduate project, Grace table, was selected for the René Smeets Award.
In 2008, Philippe freelanced for Tom Dixon, after which, he set up his own studio in London, Philippe Malouin Design, where he has been able to use a more experimental approach in his work in parallel with the projects he undertakes with industrial manufacturers.
The Italian review Abitare calls Philip one of the five designers of the year, his Hanger chair is exposed at the Gent Design Museum in Belgium, and other works are on display at the Rossana Orlandi Gallery in Milan, the Fumi Gallery in London, Commissaires in Montreal and NextLevel Galerie in Paris. Besides Droog, Philippe's client list includes Volkswagen, Wallpaper magazine, Campeggi and B-Store.
In 2009, Philippe Malouin received the second place Young Designer Award at the Cologne International Furniture Fair for his execution of the Grace table. Philippe was given a retrospective show in 2009 by NextLevel Galerie in Paris, where most of his work, alongside a new piece, "skid-row", was commissioned by the gallery. Recently he presented his second solo show, “demonstration”, also at NextLevel Galerie, which presented his latest gridlock collection, consisting of 5 new pieces commissioned by the gallery.
