You are now invited to come and play the Social City quiz in Hôtel Droog.
Social City is a think tank based on your dreams and desires. Via the quiz you can share how you envision your ideal city life. For example, in what kind of house do you want to live? What would be the view from you Social City house? Do you want animals in your neighbourhood, which ones? What kind of mobility do you wish to use in Social City? What kind of technology do you aspire in Social City? If you answer these and other questions, you will get an avatar designed by Thonik. Together with people all over the world you build the virtual city!
Experts in architecture and city planning discuss your answers on the Social City platform. The objective is to find solutions and opportunities which match your ambitions, needs and dreams and which can be implemented in the existing daily environment. The ultimate goal is to upscale all results towards a larger infrastructure to arrive at a conceptual model for a (partly) self-organizing city.
You can play the quiz at home on the internet, but you are now also invited to play the quiz on the tablet in ROOMSERVICE, the elegant and airy café and tearoom of Hôtel Droog. Sit down at the beautiful Hardworking Desk, play the quiz and enjoy some of the finest homemade recipes or freshly made sandwiches. Our advice, don’t sweat too much!
See you at Hôtel Droog!

From film and TV to food, fashion, design and architecture, Denmark is currently getting the world’s attention. TV show Borgen has millions of fans, Noma is on everyone’s restaurant wishlist and fashionistas love Henrik Vibskov. Everybody wants a taste of Denmark. Hôtel Droog offers its visitors exactly that from 27 November 2013 until 5 January 2014 with ‘The New Danish Cool’. Taste Danish liquorice dishes in ROOMSERVICE café and tearoom, see in the Gallery what acclaimed architecture studio Bjarke Ingels Group accomplished at the Superkilen Urban Park in Copenhagen, take your pick from the selection of Danish design items in the store or the Vibskov collection at Fashion at KABINET and join a talk on why Denmark is in the spotlight.
‘The New Danish Cool’ kicks off with a talk on Denmark’s cultural rebirth on 27 November. Why are the Danes so successful? What is it that’s triggering this spotlight now? How does the Danish identity manifest itself? Host of VPRO television program Licht op het Noorden, Stine Jensen has conversations with fashion designer Henrik Vibskov (Copenhagen), Peter Sylvest Husted (Lakrids, Copenhagen) and Klaus Bondam (director of the Danish Cultural Institute, Brussels, former mayor of Copenhagen and actor in a.o. Festen).
ROOMSERVICE café and tearoom will feature delicious soups, juices, sandwiches and pastries prepared with Danish liquorice on the menu. On 28 November young chef Arvid Schmidt of restaurant Marius will prepare a 5-course Nordic dinner. Top chef Schilo van Coevorden of Tunes Restaurant (Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam) will create a special liquorice infusted menu for a very exclusive dinner.
The Droog Amsterdam Store offers a special selection of Danish design products during ‘The New Danish Cool’. Brands on sale include HAY, Kvadrat, Normann Copenhagen, Muuto, Stelton, Lakrids by Johan Bülow, Sort of Coal and Bodum. Fashion at KABINET, located in Hôtel Droog, lets you browse through some wonderful Vibskov pieces.
The Gallery exhibits photographs and videos of the Superkilen Urban Park that BIG architects developed in Copenhagen. Superkilen is home to more than 60 nationalities, and is considered to be one of the most ethnically diverse and socially challenged neighbourhoods in the Danish capital. The residents of the area were closely involved in designing the park to make the ethnic diversity remarkably visible.
Are you a Borgen or Lars von Trier fan? Is Noma on the top of your restaurant wishlist? Do you love Henrik Vibskov’s clothes? Then you definitely like Denmark. From film to food, fashion, design and architecture, the country is getting the world’s attention. Hôtel Droog offers you a little taste of Denmark at the New Danish Cool. Taste Danish liquorice, see the latest in design and architecture or join a discussion on Denmarks cultural rebirth. More info coming your way soon.

MERCI pop up store
September 20th – October 6th
Merci, the Paris design concept store, will pop-up at Hôtel Droog with a snapshot of the Merci experience. The authors of the book Brushes, Daniel Rozensztroch and Shiri Slavin, and Merci art director and home stylist, will show their collection of brushes for the first time in Amsterdam, after Paris, Montreal and Tokyo. The collection reveals the know-how that ties different countries together, along with the immense creativity of those who conceived and fabricated them: the workers, artisans, inventors and designers. Brushes relate a history of social roles and the evolution of our way of life in terms of beauty, hygiene and well-being.

Lina-Marie Köppen graduated from the Social Design Masters program of the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2012 with a collection of products based on brushes. Droog challenged her to take this project to a next level. She will show a small collection of sideboards

With het The P…… Collection ’13, Wenda Hermse wanted to explore the world of a painter. She translated the contrast of the strict field of a canvas and the freedom of a painter’s brush into a collection with conservative elements.
