Description

This lightweight chair combines industrial techniques and handcrafting. A thread constructed of aramid and carbon fibres, is knotted into the shape of a chair and then impregnated with epoxy resin and hung in a frame to dry, leaving the final form in the hands of gravity. The Knotted chair was a result of Droog’s 1996 Dry Tech I project.

Marcel Wanders

Marcel Wanders is an independent industrial product design, operating out of Amsterdam where he runs his own studio. His studio designs products and interiors for various international labels, including Moooi, Cappellini, Chi ha paura…?, Mandarina Duck, Flos, Boffi and Magis. He is associated with Moooi and Lensvelt as art director. Marcel Wanders also collaborates in other design-related projects, such as the Vitra Summer Workshop where he has served as a project leader. He also was a juror for various prizes like the Rotterdam Design Prize and the Kho Liang Ie prize. He lectured at SFMoMA, Limn, the Design Academy and has taught at various design academies in the Netherlands.

Designs of Marcel Wanders are in collections and exhibitions all over the world, like the Museum of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco, Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, Centraal Museum in Utrecht, Museum of Decorative Arts Copenhagen. Works of Marcel Wanders have been published in all leading design magazines.
