A HUMAN TOUCH: Elements of Us

A new talk series curated by Yev Kravt at Droog…
Oxygen: 65%. Carbon: 18.5%. Hydrogen: 9.5%. Nitrogen: 3.2%. Calcium: 1.5%. Phosphorus: 1%. Together, they make up 99% of the human body. The rest? Trace metals, minerals, memories and a few poetic errors.
A HUMAN TOUCH is a monthly talk series hosted in the theatre at Droog. Each edition zooms in on one elemental building block of the body and follows it across design, science, ecology, and culture.
We invite artists, designers, and scientists from different disciplines to speak through the lens of a single element, revealing how these basic particles bind our bodies to the planet, to politics, and to the absurdity of being alive in an engineered world.
Expect alchemical facts, decomposing objects, poetic digressions, wild metaphors, and the occasional fermented drink. Because to understand the elements is to understand ourselves.
TALK 1: OXYGEN
Friday 28 November
O: The Element With No Smell, But All the Power
Oxygen is not the same as air. It is a chemical element with a symbol, a number, and a long history of confusion, combustion, and colonialism. It is what allows us to breathe, burn, and exist.
But who really gets to breathe and where?
The first edition of A Human Touch follows oxygen as it circulates through the body, the forest, the city, and outer space, inviting artists, scientists, and thinkers to share their stories of O.
