The Walkaway
Dutch-Indian pianist and composer Ischico explores music in all its shapes and colors. In this programme, she brings together her own music, music by Tigran Hamasyan, and her own versions of Scarlatti sonatas. Blending her classical background with folk, pop and jazz influences, she moves between musical worlds, sharing the music and artists that have shaped her own sound. Through sharing her stories on stage, she invites the audience into her musical world.
“With everything she does, Ischico paints with colors.” — Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ
Her debut album Kleurstof (7MNTN) reached the Apple Music Classical Global Top 50, reflecting her curiosity for music that crosses genres and expectations. Whether exploring forgotten piano pieces, contemporary music or writing her own pieces inspired by everyday moments, Ischico loves discovering unexpected connections between musical worlds. Her playing has been described as effortlessly expressive, technically fluent and full of color.
A Young Artist in Pianist Magazine and featured in LINDA.meiden, she has performed at venues including Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ and Musis Sacrum. Her music has also been broadcast on NPO Klassiek, Radio New Zealand and SBS Australia. After completing her piano master’s studies in Glasgow and Barcelona and winning first prize at the Lamond Prize, she continues to follow her curiosity rather than be pinned down to a single genre.
