Lace Plate by Gijs Bakker

Gijs Bakker
Lace Plate, 1997

Lace Plate is a refined yet conceptually playful design by Gijs Bakker, created in 1997. The glass plate features a delicate lace pattern that appears to lie gently on its surface, as if a piece of textile has been placed there by chance.

Instead of traditional engraving or decoration, the lace motif was digitally developed from an original pattern by the Dessailles textile company and subtly applied to the glass. The result is an illusion of softness and texture that remains smooth to the touch. With Lace Plate, Bakker transforms an everyday object into a quiet experiment in perception, combining ornament, technology, and restraint in a single gesture.
