Folding Bookcase by Jan Konings & Jurgen Bey

Jan Konings and Jurgen Bey
Folding Bookcase, 1991

Folds flat when empty, expands to fit the exact amount of books.  Crafted from cut plywood, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and kraft paper/cardboard, the Folding Bookcase is lightweight yet sturdy. It folds down to a mere ~5 cm (2″) depth when empty, making it wonderfully space-saving.

The piece was designed to accommodate only as many as placed inside; the Folding Bookcase is part of the MoMA collection.
