Light That Pays Attention by Agata Jaworska

Light That Pays Attention by Agata Jaworska puts one person in the spotlight. Created for people living alone, the concept follows the occupant around a room, illuminating the space directly ahead of them. Instead of keeping the whole room lit, it proposes using light where it is needed, with the aim of saving energy.

The design responds to a simple observation: a home occupied by one person does not always need to function like a household shared by several. By adapting illumination to individual movement, Jaworska suggests a more personal relationship between people and their domestic surroundings.

The concept was presented in S1NGLETOWN, a project by Droog and KesselsKramer at the Venice Architecture Biennale, from 14 September to 23 November 2008. Built around nine fictional residents, the exhibition explored how design could respond to the growing variety of lives lived alone.
