Play House for Bang & Olufsen by Trasst & Gruson

Play House [exhibition design for Bang & Olufsen], 1999
Play House was an experimental installation created by Droog Design for Bang & Olufsen in 1999 and presented during the Milan International Furniture Fair. Instead of a conventional showroom, Exhibition designers Traast & Gruson designed a life-size wireframe house made from fluorescent tubes, transforming the exhibition into an immersive environment.
As visitors moved through the structure, sound and image were activated, subtly revealing Bang & Olufsen products within familiar domestic scenes. The project offered a playful, experiential way to explore how technology integrates into everyday life, shifting the focus from display to lived experience. Sound and images together provided an idea of the house layout. Pictures on a TV screen suggested the presence of a bathroom, and sounds from a CD player evoked the association with a kitchen. Few visitors dared to pick up the phone.
