Two of a Kind Ring by Frederik Roije

Two of a Kind, designed by Frederik Roijé for Droog, is a conceptual piece that explores themes of connection and sharing in a simple yet meaningful way.

The design consists of two rings of different sizes joined into one object. The phrase Two of a Kind is engraved on the surface, highlighting their relationship. However, the piece is only truly completed when it is separated. By breaking the rings apart, they can be shared between two people, turning the act of splitting into a symbolic gesture.

Once divided, the broken edge forms a unique and irregular pattern, adding a distinctive character to each ring. This contrast between the smooth original form and the rough, fractured edge emphasises the transformation the object undergoes.

Through this minimal design, Roijé reflects on ideas of togetherness and individuality. The piece shows how meaning can emerge through interaction, suggesting that separation can create something new and personal.
