Reinraus — Instant Balcony Design by realities:united
realities:united
Reinraus, 2008
Reinraus is a space that can be hung out of a window, giving the single living in compact conditions a sense of freedom. The project rethinks the idea of private outdoor space in dense urban environments by offering a ready-made balcony extension that attaches to a building façade. Designed to be simple, adaptable, and easy to install, Reinraus proposes that residents, particularly singles with small apartments, can quickly create their own outdoor space without major renovation. By literally extending the living area out into the city, the design highlights how architecture and objects might help reshape personal space, connection to the street, and everyday experience of urban life.
realities:united is a Berlin-based interdisciplinary practice established in 2000 by Andreas Heinke and Michael Klumpner. The studio develops experimental projects that combine architecture, product design, and research-driven concepts, frequently engaging with social and spatial challenges. Instead of concentrating purely on visual form, their work investigates how design can shape behaviour, enhance daily experiences, and react thoughtfully to urban environments.
