One of the things that makes @droog stand out as an LGBTQ+ friendly venue in Amsterdam is the variety of spaces available. Every room has its own character, and together they can host events of almost any format or size.
The grand space is on the ground floor and can hold up to 90 people seated or 160 standing. It has a stage, a beamer, and a sound system, and it opens directly onto our garden. This is a great space for panel discussions, keynote talks, networking drinks, or a full evening celebration. The sliding doors connect it to the garden and to the red space, making it easy to expand when your event grows.
The red space is one of our most distinctive rooms. It is fully themed in deep reds, pinks, oranges, and purples, and it has a round u-shaped tribune that seats up to 80 people. It was built as a theatre space, with all the technical equipment you would expect. Think of it as a stage for stories. Perfect for performances, film screenings, live shows, or any format where the audience and the presenter share something meaningful together.
Upstairs, the white space offers a lighter, more airy setting. Large white windows look out over the Amsterdam rooftops and our garden below. This room fits up to 70 people in a theatre setup or 50 seated at tables, and it works beautifully for training sessions, workshops, book launches, or intimate celebrations like a wedding or a PhD defence ceremony.
The library is our smaller meeting room, also upstairs. It has floral wallpaper based on a painting from the Rijksmuseum, yellow chairs around a long table, and a chandelier that sets the mood immediately. It seats up to 10 people and is often used for private dinners, small strategy sessions, or intimate roundtable conversations. This room has a personality all its own.
And then there is the cafe. At the top of our yellow staircase, you will find our cafe restaurant with a view over the Groenburgwal canal. It is tall, bright, and layered with design details, from the blue butterfly lamp to the curved white tiled bar and a fireplace. It holds up to 180 people standing and 70 seated. It is our most design-rich space, and it opens to the public every day, which means it carries an energy that is already social and welcoming before your event even begins.
mixing spaces for bigger events
Events do not have to stay in one room. If you need more space, we simply open more of the building. Breakout sessions, dinners across floors, live-stream setups, workshops running in parallel, all of it is possible. @droog works well for events that have multiple layers: a main programme in one space, a dinner in another, and drinks in the garden to close the evening.
