Corian

On January 27th 2006, the joint project ‘Droog for Corian’ took off in Genk, Belgium. A group of ten designers, from the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom and Portugal, was informed in detail about the technical processing and working qualities of the material Corian.

Corian is part of the American company Dupont. It was founded in 1802 and is established in Wilmington, Delaware – U.S.A. The high quality and durable synthetic Corian is well-known for its applications in bathroom and kitchen.

However, as the material is smooth and lacks structure, Corian has an outdated radiation. It’s a big challenge for the designers we work with to change this image. Already during the demonstrations of processing and manufacturing possibilities last week, a lot of spontaneous ideas came up, from humanising the material to exploiting the tactile qualities of the material.

The results of this joint project from Droog and Corian will be launched on the international market.
