One Day Paper Waste Table by Jens Praet

Jens Praet
One Day Paper Waste Table, 2008
The project transforms a single day’s worth of discarded office paper into a solid, functional table, highlighting the hidden value of everyday waste. Shredded paper, often originating from confidential documents, is mixed with resin and compressed in a mould, resulting in a dense, wood-like composite material. Through this process, Praet challenges conventional ideas of permanence and sustainability, demonstrating how waste can be reimagined as both a structural material and an expressive design object.
The work was presented during Milan Design Week and is frequently cited as an early example of Praet’s material-driven, conceptually focused approach to design.
