Safety Shade, 2008
This shade turns an ordinary window covering into a clever security trick. Designed by mkodame design in 2008, it creates the impression that several people are at home, helping anyone who lives alone feel a little safer without complicated or expensive technology.
The design was presented at the S1ngletown project, a fictional community exploring the realities of solo living—from privacy and loneliness to security and changing domestic habits. The project was publicly shown at the 11th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2008.
