Set in Concrete Table by FormaFantasma

Set in Concrete Table, 2008
Set in Concrete, a conceptual table-object, was presented during Milan Design Week in collaboration with Droog and exemplifies FormaFantasma’s research-driven approach to materials and meaning.
By combining porcelain and concrete, each material intensifies the qualities of the other: the delicacy of porcelain can only be fully perceived through the weight and mass of concrete. To lift a cup, the entire concrete pillar must be raised; to reveal the decorative plates, the concrete blocks must be turned. Every action is deliberate, binding object and gesture together in a continuous, ritualised sequence where each element depends on the other. By freezing domestic rituals within an industrial material, Set in Concrete challenges conventional ideas of use, value, and longevity, prompting reflection on disposability, preservation, and the cultural significance we assign to everyday objects.
