Wanna-be Wardrobe by Studio Minale-Maeda

Wanna-be Wardrobe, 2011

An adaptable storage concept that treats furniture as a dynamic system rather than a finished product. The design proposes a neutral structure that gains its character through use, choice, and change.

The wardrobe is based on a straightforward wooden framework assembled with visible metal connectors, making it easy to adjust in scale and layout. Instead of a fixed exterior, the piece is intended to be covered with textiles chosen by the user. These coverings can be exchanged over time, allowing the wardrobe to respond to shifting needs, tastes, or environments.

Encouraging personal involvement and long-term adaptability, Wanna-be wardrobe invites users to participate in the creation of their own living environment, while questioning conventional ideas of authorship, uniformity, and permanence in furniture design.
