With a little help of the bees by Tomáš Gabzdil Libertíny

This vase has been built by 40.000 bees in 1 week. Libertíny made a vase-shaped hive that a swarm of bees thickened with wax on both the inside and the outside.

The wax sheets to shape the hive were embossed with honeycomb to help the bees build in the right place. The bees created the final shape in a process that he calls “slow prototyping”. Because the bees are irritated by monitoring, the designer had to estimate the right time to take out the vase.
