Amsterdam is klein.

de ceremonie: the red space

Rode ruimte (The Red Space) met de gordijnen open.

Rood, roze, oranje, paars.

het diner: the white space

Wedding/trouwerij met blauwe loper in white space

Boven.

de receptie: the grand space

Begane grond.

het privédiner: the library

het feest: the cafe

  • the red space: 50-60 comfortabel, max 80
  • the white space: 50 aan tafel, 70 in theateropstelling
  • the grand space: 90 zittend, 160 staand
  • the library: 10 aan tafel
  • the cafe: 70 zittend, 180 staand

  • Een meergangendiner in the white space of the cafe.
  • Privédiners in the library, max 10 personen.

Of ervoor.

veelgestelde vragen over trouwen in Amsterdam centrum

Ja. Veel evenementen bij @droog beslaan meerdere ruimtes tegelijk. Ceremonie in the red space, diner in the white space, feest in the cafe: dat is een dag die werkt.

Is er parkeergelegenheid?
Niet op het terrein. Amsterdam centrum is grotendeels betaald parkeren.

how to get married in the center of amsterdam?

how to get married in the center of amsterdam

Getting married in Amsterdam is not complicated. Getting married in a place that actually means something, that is a little harder. The city has no shortage of venues. It has a shortage of places that feel like something other than a backdrop.

@droog is a building from 1641. It housed the Drapers’ Guild, then became a design gallery, then a hotel, a cafe, a theatre, a meeting space, and somewhere along the way a place where people started asking: could we get married here?

The answer is yes.

what makes amsterdam a good city to get married in

Amsterdam has around 250 kilometres of canals, more than 1,500 bridges, and a historic city centre that has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2010. The canal belt, known as the Grachtengordel, was built in the 17th century and remains largely intact. That means the city you see when you get married here is not a reconstruction. It is the original.

Legally, getting married in the Netherlands as a foreign national is possible but requires preparation. You will need a certificate of no impediment from your home country, translated into Dutch or English by a sworn translator. The Amsterdam Civil Registry, the Stadsarchief or the municipality office, handles the registration. Most couples arrange the legal ceremony separately, often at the Westerkerk or the Stadhuis, and then hold their celebration somewhere that actually reflects who they are.

That second part, the celebration, is where @droog comes in.

a building that does not look like a wedding venue

That is not a problem. It is the point.

Most wedding venues spend a lot of effort looking like wedding venues. White tablecloths, chandeliers, neutral walls that go with anything. @droog looks like itself. A labyrinth of rooms, each with a different character, connected by a yellow hallway staircase and a garden that sits in the middle of the city centre. The building has been redesigned over decades by Renny Ramakers and the designers associated with Droog, a movement that began in 1993 with the idea that design should be honest, functional, and slightly unexpected.

That philosophy shows up in every room. The chandelier in the library is flat, hanging low over a long table surrounded by yellow chairs. The wallpaper is based on a painting from the Rijksmuseum. The theatre is entirely red, pink, orange and purple, with a round u-shaped tribune and movable cushions. The cafe has a blue butterfly lamp, a curved white tiled bar, and a fireplace. None of it was chosen to be inoffensive. All of it was chosen with a reason.

If you want a wedding that looks like every other wedding, this is probably not your building. If you want a wedding that looks like yours, keep reading.

the spaces available for your wedding at @droog

Wedding/trouwerij met blauwe loper in white space

The building has five distinct spaces. You can use one or several, depending on the size of your group and how you want the day to flow.

the cafe restaurant

The cafe is at the top of the yellow hallway staircase, overlooking the Groenburgwal canal. It is tall, bright, classical and cosy at the same time, which sounds like a contradiction until you see it. The blue butterfly lamp hangs above a room that fits up to 180 people standing or 70 people seated. There is a fireplace. There is a curved white tiled bar. There is a kitchen that has been serving the same idea since 2004, which is that food is worth sitting down for. For a wedding dinner or a reception with a view over the water, this is the room most couples start with.

the white space

The white space is upstairs. Large white windows look out onto the old Amsterdam houses surrounding the building and into the garden below. It fits up to 70 people in a theatre setting or 50 seated with tables, depending on the setup. It has a beamer. It is a room that has held a PhD promotion and a book launch in the same week. A wedding ceremony fits here just as well.

the red space

The red space is the theatre. Red, pink, orange, purple. A round u-shaped tribune with movable cushions that seats up to 80 people. It is equipped with professional theatre equipment, lighting, and sound. If you want your ceremony to feel like a performance, and some couples do, this is where that happens. Between 50 and 60 people sit comfortably. Fewer than 20 and the room starts to feel empty, so this one works best when the guest list is a real guest list.

the grand space

grand space in congres setting

The grand space is on the ground floor, with a giant sliding door that opens directly to the garden. It fits up to 90 people seated or 160 standing. There is a stage, a beamer, and a sound system. For larger receptions, networking drinks after a ceremony, or a party at the end of the night, this is the room that holds it all together. Charlotte Tilbury has used it for a pop-up. So has Shiseido. It works for a wedding too.

the library

Ten people around a long table. Yellow chairs, a flat chandelier, flowered wallpaper from a Rijksmuseum painting, windows looking into the garden. The library is the room for a private dinner for the inner circle, the night before or the morning after. Not a space for speeches. A space for a meal that matters.

the garden

A courtyard in the middle of the city centre. It connects the grand space to the red space and is visible from several rooms above. It seats 60. Nobody has ever asked for the address twice.

how a wedding day at @droog can look

There is no fixed format. That is also the point. But here is one way a day could flow, to make it concrete.

Guests arrive and gather in the grand space or the garden for drinks. The ceremony takes place in the white space, with chairs facing a window that looks out over old Amsterdam rooftops. Afterwards, the group moves to the cafe restaurant for dinner, canal view included. The library is reserved for the immediate family. Later in the evening, the grand space opens again for dancing or a late reception. The red space runs a short programme, a reading, a live set, something unexpected.

Rooms do not need to be used in isolation. @droog is a building, not a ballroom. You move through it. That is what makes it work for a full-day event.

food and drink

The cafe restaurant at @droog sources locally where possible. Sustainability is not a marketing claim here, it is built into how the kitchen operates. For weddings, the team can discuss a menu that fits the size and format of your event, whether that is a seated dinner, a standing reception, or a combination across multiple rooms. Tell them what you have in mind and they will tell you what is possible.

practical information

@droog is located on Staalstraat 7b in Amsterdam, directly on the Groenburgwal canal in the historic centre. The building is a 10-minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal and is accessible by public transport, bike, and foot. There is no on-site parking, which is fairly standard for this part of the city.

The building is available for private events on evenings and weekends, and sometimes during weekdays depending on programming. Capacity across all rooms combined reaches up to 180 people for a standing reception. For a seated dinner, the cafe restaurant and white space together accommodate around 120 people comfortably.

Events are not limited to one room. If you need a ceremony space, a dinner space, a breakout room and a garden, you can have all of them. It is one building and it has all of those things.

legal requirements for getting married in amsterdam as a foreigner

This is the part most guides skip over. Here it is, plainly.

To get legally married in Amsterdam, both partners need to be registered or submit documents to the Amsterdam municipality. The key documents are a birth certificate, a valid passport or ID, and a certificate of no impediment from your country of residence or citizenship. That certificate confirms you are legally free to marry. It needs to be translated into Dutch or English by a sworn translator if it is in another language.

The municipality has a processing time. Start this process at least three months before your planned date, ideally earlier if you are coming from outside the EU. Some countries require apostille stamps on documents. Check with your home country’s consulate in the Netherlands.

The legal ceremony itself, the part that makes it official, takes place at the Amsterdam municipality office or at a registered location. A venue like @droog can host the celebration. Whether it can host the legal ceremony depends on licensing, which is worth discussing directly when you make your inquiry.

Many couples opt for a civil ceremony at the municipality on the morning of the wedding and then hold the full celebration at @droog the same day. It is practical and it means the celebration can be exactly what you want it to be, without being structured around legal formalities.

is @droog the right venue for your wedding?

Honest answer: it depends on what you want.

If you want a venue with a wedding coordinator who has done 200 weddings and has a checklist for every contingency, @droog is not that. It is a design space with a strong point of view, a team that knows the building well, and a kitchen that cares about the food.

If you want a venue in the actual historic centre of Amsterdam, on a canal, in a building from 1641, with rooms that look like nothing else in the city, and a philosophy that treats every event as something worth thinking about rather than processing, then yes. @droog is the right venue.

It works best for couples who know what they want and want a space that can hold it. Not a blank canvas. A canvas with character, and enough room to make it yours.

frequently asked questions about getting married in amsterdam

can non-dutch citizens get married in amsterdam?
Yes. You need to submit the required documents to the Amsterdam municipality, including a certificate of no impediment from your home country. Start the process at least three months before the date.

how many people can @droog host for a wedding?
Up to 180 people for a standing reception across multiple spaces. Around 120 seated for a dinner, depending on which rooms are used. For smaller, more intimate weddings of 20 to 50 people, the white space or cafe restaurant work well on their own.

is there catering at @droog?
Yes. The cafe restaurant has its own kitchen and team. They work with local suppliers and can discuss a menu tailored to your event. For specific dietary requirements or large custom menus, it is best to discuss this early in the planning process.

can we hold the legal ceremony at @droog?
This depends on current licensing. Ask directly when you make your inquiry. Many couples hold the legal ceremony at the municipality and the celebration at @droog on the same day.

is the venue accessible?
The building is in a historic 1641 structure, which means some areas have stairs. Accessibility details are best confirmed directly with the team when discussing your event setup.

how far in advance should we book?
As early as possible, especially for weekend dates. The building hosts both public programming and private events, so availability is not guaranteed. For a specific date in peak season (May through September), six to twelve months ahead is a reasonable lead time.

is the garden available for weddings?
Yes. The garden is an outdoor courtyard that connects several rooms and fits up to 60 people. It is available as part of a larger event. Weather in Amsterdam being what it is, most couples treat it as a complement to indoor spaces rather than the main venue.

what is the address?
Staalstraat 7b, Amsterdam. On the Groenburgwal canal, 10 minutes on foot from Amsterdam Centraal.

tell us what you have in mind

Every wedding at @droog starts the same way: a conversation about what you actually want. Not a form with dropdown menus. A conversation. Tell the team the date, the number of people, and the rough shape of the day. They will tell you what is possible.

The building has held theatre performances, board meetings, pop-up stores, PhD promotions and dinners that went on longer than planned. A wedding fits. It always has.

best indoor wedding locations in amsterdam

best indoor wedding locations in amsterdam

Wedding/trouwerij met blauwe loper in white space

Amsterdam has no shortage of venues. Canal houses, hotel ballrooms, converted warehouses. But if you are looking for something that actually feels like a decision, the building matters as much as the day itself. This guide walks you through what makes an indoor wedding location worth choosing in Amsterdam, what questions to ask before you sign anything, and why a few spaces stand out from the rest.

what makes a great indoor wedding venue in amsterdam?

Not every beautiful room is a good wedding room. There are a few things that separate a venue that works from one that just looks good in photos.

Light. Indoor weddings live or die by natural light. A room with high windows and a view of Amsterdam rooftops will photograph differently than a basement with mood lighting. Ask to visit at the time of day your ceremony would start.

Flexibility. A wedding is rarely one moment. There is the ceremony, the dinner, the drinks, the dancing, the quiet corner where two people finally breathe. A venue that can hold all of those, without shuttling guests between locations, removes a logistical headache you do not want on that day.

Character. Generic rooms require a lot of decoration to feel like somewhere. Rooms with their own identity, materials, history, a specific chair or a specific lamp, ask less of you and give more back.

Food. The venue’s kitchen matters. Catering brought in from outside loses something. When the food comes from the same building, it shows.

Location. Amsterdam’s canal belt is the obvious answer, but not all canal belt venues are easy to reach. Check public transport links, parking, and walking distance from hotels for guests coming from outside the city.

the types of indoor wedding venues in amsterdam

Before looking at specific spaces, it helps to know what category of venue you are actually looking for. Amsterdam offers a few distinct types.

Historic canal houses. Typically narrow, tall, and organised across multiple floors. Intimate by nature. Best for smaller weddings of 20 to 60 people. The architecture does the work, but the practical logistics, staircases, ceiling heights, kitchen access, can be a challenge.

Museum and gallery spaces. High ceilings, open plans, and often extraordinary collections on the walls. Availability is limited and the rules around use are strict. They tend to suit larger budgets and larger guest lists.

Hotel ballrooms. Reliable, fully serviced, and forgettable. Everything is handled. Nothing is unexpected. If that is what you need, hotel ballrooms deliver it well.

Design and cultural venues. A smaller category, but arguably the most interesting one. These are buildings with a point of view. They were made by people who thought carefully about what a room should do to the people inside it. The white space at @droog is a good example. Large windows facing the old Amsterdam houses and the garden below. Up to 70 people in theatre setting, or 50 seated with tables. It has been used for PhD promotions, book launches, and small concerts. A wedding fits naturally.

@droog: a building from 1641 with a reason to exist

@droog sits on the Staalstraat in the centre of Amsterdam, in a building that housed the Drapers’ Guild in 1641. That is not a detail for the brochure. It is the reason the building feels the way it does: serious materials, generous proportions, rooms that were built to matter.

Droog Design, one of the most internationally recognised Dutch design movements, has shaped every choice made inside it. Renny Ramakers and Gijs Bakker launched Droog in 1993. What followed was not a brand in the conventional sense but a way of looking at everyday objects differently, finding the logic underneath and making it visible. That sensibility runs through the building now. The furniture is not decorative. The lamps are not accidental. The wallpaper in one of the meeting rooms is based on a painting in the Rijksmuseum.

For a wedding, that means you are not starting from a blank room. You are starting from somewhere that already has a perspective.

the spaces at @droog

event in de red space met bezoekers

There are five spaces in the building, and they can be combined depending on what the day requires.

the white space
Upstairs, with large white windows looking out over the Amsterdam canal houses and the garden. This is the space most suited to a ceremony or a seated dinner. It holds 70 in a theatre setting, or 50 with tables. The light is good through most of the day. It has a beamer if you need it, and the proportions are right for a room that needs to feel both formal and warm.

the red space
Red, pink, orange, purple. A round U-shaped tribune with movable cushions that seats up to 80. This is a theatre, not a dining room, and it reads that way. If you want a ceremony that feels like a performance, this is the room. Between 50 and 60 people sit comfortably. Below 20, the space feels too empty to use well.

the grand space
Ground floor, with a sliding door that opens to the garden and the red space. Up to 90 seated, 160 standing. Stage included. This is the space for the party, the speeches, the dancing, the moment where the evening opens up. It has a sound system and beamer. It has held pop-up stores for Charlotte Tilbury and Shiseido. It holds a wedding reception at least as well.

the library
A long table, yellow chairs, a flat chandelier, and flowered wallpaper taken from a Rijksmuseum painting. This room seats 10. It is not for the ceremony or the reception. It is for the private dinner the night before, or the small table of family who need their own space during the day.

the cafe
At the top of the yellow hallway staircase. A blue butterfly lamp, a curved white tiled bar, a fireplace, and a view of the Groenburgwal canal. Up to 180 standing, 70 seated. This is arguably the most beautiful room in the building. It opens to the public every day for lunch, which means the kitchen knows what it is doing. For an evening event, it closes to the public and becomes yours entirely.

Events are not limited to one room. A ceremony in the white space, drinks in the garden and the grand space, dinner in the cafe. The building is organised so that a full day moves through it naturally.

what a design-led wedding actually means in practice

Design thinking, as Droog has practised it since 1993, starts with a question: why does this thing exist, and does it need to be this way? Applied to a wedding, that question is useful. Why is the ceremony in this room? Why is dinner at this time? Why is the music this loud? None of those are rhetorical. They are practical design prompts.

A venue that has been built around those questions makes it easier for you to answer them for your own day. The rooms at @droog were not decorated. They were considered. That is a different starting point than a hotel ballroom, and it tends to produce a different kind of event.

Sustainability is built into the building, not added onto it. Local sourcing, responsible materials, construction choices that were made with environmental reasoning behind them. For couples who care about those things, it is not a feature to request. It is already there.

practical information for couples

A few things worth knowing before you visit.

Location: Staalstraat 7b, Amsterdam. Walking distance from Waterlooplein metro and multiple tram lines. The canal belt location means it is easy for guests arriving by public transport, and the Groenburgwal outside the building is one of the most photographed canal corners in Amsterdam.

Capacity: Depending on which spaces you use and how, @droog can host an intimate ceremony of 20 or a reception of up to 180. The modular setup means the guest list does not determine the venue. The venue adapts.

Catering: The cafe restaurant operates its own kitchen. Food is not an afterthought here. Lunch has been served in that room since 2004, which is its own kind of evidence.

Availability: The building runs a public programme alongside its private events. That means some dates move faster than others. If you have a specific date in mind, it is worth asking early.

Civil ceremonies: The Netherlands allows civil ceremonies to take place outside of the town hall in registered venues. @droog can discuss what this requires in practice.

questions to ask any indoor wedding venue in amsterdam

Before you commit to any venue, these are the questions that tend to separate a good decision from a regretted one.

  • Can we visit at the same time of day as our ceremony? Light changes everything.
  • What happens if we need more space, or less? Is the layout flexible?
  • Is the kitchen on-site, or does catering come from outside?
  • Are there noise restrictions? What time do the neighbours expect quiet?
  • What does the venue look like when it is empty? That is what you are actually renting.
  • Who is our contact on the day, and have they worked a wedding in this building before?
  • What is already in the room that we do not have to bring, and what do we have to source ourselves?
  • Is there a space for the couple to be alone for ten minutes before the ceremony?

frequently asked questions

Can @droog host both the ceremony and the reception?
Yes. The building has multiple rooms that can be used for different parts of the day. A ceremony in one space, drinks in the garden, dinner and dancing elsewhere in the building. The layout was not designed for events but it works well for them, precisely because the rooms are distinct from each other.

How many guests can @droog accommodate for a wedding?
It depends on which spaces you use. The white space holds 70 in a seated setting. The cafe holds 70 seated or 180 standing. The grand space holds 90 seated or 160 standing. Combine them and the numbers add up accordingly. The building does not have a single answer to this question, which is part of what makes it flexible.

Is @droog suitable for a small wedding?
Yes. The library seats 10 and is an ideal space for a private dinner. The white space works well for a ceremony of 20 to 50 people. Smaller weddings often work better in rooms with their own character, because the room does not feel empty when it is not full.

What is the catering like at @droog?
The cafe restaurant has its own kitchen and has been serving food in the building since 2004. For private events, the kitchen team can discuss what is possible. The emphasis is on quality and local sourcing, which matches the broader approach of the building.

Is the building accessible?
The ground floor and garden are accessible. Some of the upstairs spaces involve stairs. If accessibility is a priority for your guests, it is worth discussing specifics when you enquire.

Can we hold a civil ceremony at @droog?
Dutch civil law allows ceremonies to take place in registered venues outside of the town hall. Whether @droog qualifies for your specific situation depends on the municipality and the type of ceremony. This is worth discussing directly when you get in touch.

Do we need to bring our own decorations?
The rooms at @droog have their own design identity. The furniture, the lamps, the wallpaper, these are already there and already considered. Many couples find they need fewer decorations than expected, because the rooms do not start from neutral. What you add should add something, not compensate for something missing.

Is the garden available for weddings?
Yes. The garden sits between the grand space and the red space on the ground floor. It is a courtyard in the middle of the city centre. It works well for drinks, informal moments, or as a transition space between rooms during the day.

a different kind of wedding venue

Most wedding venues in Amsterdam are selling a setting. A canal, a ceiling height, a catering package. What @droog offers is different: a building with a point of view, rooms that were made with intention, and a team that operates from design thinking rather than from a checklist.

That is not for every couple. Some weddings need reliability and familiarity above all else, and a hotel ballroom delivers that well. But if you are looking for a day that feels like it was thought through, from the lamp above the table to the food on the plate, @droog is worth looking at seriously.

The building has been standing since 1641. It has held the Drapers’ Guild, a design movement, a gallery, a restaurant, and a great number of events that people still talk about. It fits a wedding. It fits a wedding well.

what does a wedding location in amsterdam generally cost?

what does a wedding location in amsterdam generally cost?

Wedding/trouwerij met blauwe loper in white space

It depends. That is the honest answer, and it is also the most useful starting point. Amsterdam wedding venues range from around 500 euros for a simple civil ceremony room to well above 10,000 euros for a full-day exclusive hire of a landmark building. Most couples land somewhere in the middle, between 2,000 and 6,000 euros for the venue alone, before catering, photography or flowers enter the picture.

This article breaks down what you actually pay for, what affects the price, and what questions to ask before you sign anything.

the real cost of renting a wedding venue in amsterdam

Amsterdam is not a cheap city. That is not a complaint, just a fact. The combination of canal houses, dense geography and high demand from both local couples and international visitors pushes venue prices up. Here is a rough breakdown of what you can expect at different price points.

under 1,500 euros

At this budget, you are looking at restaurant private dining rooms, small gallery spaces or municipal ceremony rooms. These work well for small guest lists of 10 to 30 people. The tradeoff is limited flexibility: set menus, fixed layouts, sometimes a strict time window. Nothing wrong with that if simplicity is the point.

1,500 to 4,000 euros

This is where most Amsterdam weddings live. Spaces in this range offer proper exclusivity, a bit of character, and room to bring in your own caterer or decorator. You get 4 to 8 hours of access, often including basic AV. Guest capacity usually runs between 30 and 80 seated.

4,000 to 8,000 euros

At this level, you are renting something with a real identity. A converted warehouse in Noord, a canal-side terrace, a design house in the Grachtengordel. The venue fee often includes more staff hours, setup time and sometimes an in-house coordinator. Capacity tends to be higher, and the experience more polished out of the box.

above 8,000 euros

Historic monuments, museum evenings, full-building takeovers. These come with exclusivity, prestige and complexity. You will also likely need a production team alongside the venue itself.

what drives the price up or down?

Venue pricing in Amsterdam is not arbitrary. Several concrete factors determine what you pay.

  • Day of the week. Saturday is the most expensive day. Friday evenings run close behind. A Wednesday ceremony can cost 30 to 40 percent less at the same venue.
  • Season. May through September is peak. January and February are quietest. Venues are more negotiable in winter.
  • Guest count. More people means more staff, more tables, more everything. A venue that fits 50 comfortably will charge a premium if you push to 80.
  • Catering model. Some venues have an in-house kitchen and require you to use it. Others let you bring in an external caterer. The first is often more expensive upfront but simpler to manage. The second gives you more control.
  • Exclusivity. A space that closes to the public for your event charges more than one that stays partly open. Obvious, but worth confirming in the contract.
  • Duration. Venue fees are usually quoted per half-day or full day. Ask what setup and breakdown time is included and what happens if you run over.

hidden costs couples often miss

The venue fee is the headline number. The real budget is built from everything underneath it.

  • Cleaning fees. Often not included. Can run from 200 to 600 euros depending on venue size and what you leave behind.
  • Security deposits. Usually refundable, but can be 500 to 1,500 euros held for weeks after the event.
  • AV and lighting. If it is not in the contract, assume it is not included. A basic sound system rental starts around 300 euros. A full light rig for an evening event can be 1,000 or more.
  • Corkage fees. Some venues charge per bottle if you bring your own wine. Ask before you show up with a case from your favourite importer.
  • Municipal ceremony fee. If you want a legal ceremony in Amsterdam, the municipality charges a separate fee. A basic ceremony on a weekday costs around 170 euros. A Saturday ceremony with a more formal setting can run to 600 or 700 euros.

a wedding at @droog: what it actually looks like

@droog is a design house on the Staalstraat, in a building from 1641 that once housed the Drapers’ Guild. It is not a conventional wedding venue. It has never tried to be. What it offers is something harder to find: rooms with real character, rooted in a design philosophy that Renny Ramakers and Gijs Bakker built into a global movement in the 1990s. Every object, surface and space here was chosen with a reason.

That matters for weddings because the backdrop is already doing something. You are not decorating a blank box. You are working with a place that has its own story.

Several rooms are available, and they combine well.

The grand space sits on the ground floor with a giant sliding door that opens onto the garden. It seats 90 or holds 160 standing. A stage, a sound system, a beamer. Ceremony, reception or dinner, it handles all three.

The red space is a theatre. Red, pink, orange, purple. A round u-shaped tribune with movable cushions, seating 50 to 60 comfortably or up to 80 shoulder to shoulder. It works well for a ceremony with a bit of drama. Accessible from the grand space or the garden.

The white space is upstairs. Large white windows look out over old Amsterdam rooftops and the garden below. Seats 70 in theatre layout or 50 with tables. A book launch, a PhD promotion and a wedding have all happened in this room. That range is not unusual here.

The library is the room for ten. Yellow chairs, a long table, a flat chandelier above it, flowered wallpaper taken from a painting in the Rijksmuseum. Ideal for a private dinner after a ceremony, or as a preparation room for the couple before the day begins.

The cafe is at the top of the yellow staircase. A blue butterfly lamp, a curved white tiled bar, a fireplace, a view over the Groenburgwal canal. Up to 180 standing, 70 seated. Arguably the most beautiful room in the building. It is also a working restaurant, which means the kitchen knows what it is doing.

Rooms do not need to be booked separately. A full building takeover is possible, and for a wedding that moves through ceremony, dinner and dancing, that is often the right call.

design thinking and weddings: why it matters

@droog applies design thinking to events the same way it applies it to objects. That means starting with the question behind the question. Not just “where do we put the tables” but “what do we want people to feel when they leave.” Not just “what is the catering budget” but “what does the food say about who we are.”

For couples who care about that distinction, it changes the planning process. The team at @droog does not offer a wedding package with interchangeable options. It works with you from a blank page, or something close to one. Sustainability is built into the sourcing. Local suppliers are the default, not the premium option.

That approach takes more conversation upfront. It also tends to produce something that feels less like a product and more like an event that was actually made for you.

how to compare amsterdam venues fairly

When you have a shortlist of venues, comparison gets tricky fast. The sticker price rarely reflects the real cost. Here is a consistent framework for comparing fairly.

  • Ask for the all-in price, not the hire fee. Request a line-by-line breakdown.
  • Confirm what catering options exist. In-house only? External allowed? Corkage policy?
  • Ask about minimum spend requirements. Some venues waive the hire fee but require a food and drink minimum per head.
  • Ask what happens if guest numbers change. Can you scale up or down after signing?
  • Check what the cancellation policy looks like. Especially relevant if you are planning more than a year out.
  • Ask whether the venue has liability insurance and whether you need your own event insurance on top.

frequently asked questions

what is the average cost of a wedding venue in amsterdam?

Most couples in Amsterdam spend between 2,000 and 6,000 euros on the venue hire alone. Add catering at 80 to 150 euros per person, photography at 2,000 to 4,000 euros and flowers at 500 to 2,000 euros, and a full wedding day in Amsterdam typically runs between 8,000 and 20,000 euros depending on guest count and choices made.

is it cheaper to get married on a weekday in amsterdam?

Yes, meaningfully so. A Monday through Thursday ceremony can cost 30 to 40 percent less at the same venue compared to a Saturday. If flexibility on date is possible, a weekday wedding in Amsterdam is one of the most effective ways to reduce overall cost without changing much else.

how far in advance should i book a wedding venue in amsterdam?

For a Saturday in peak season, 12 to 18 months ahead is not unusual for popular venues. Weekdays and off-season dates have more availability, but booking 6 to 9 months out is still advisable to secure your first choice.

can i have a legal wedding ceremony at @droog?

Yes. The municipality of Amsterdam allows legal ceremonies to take place at private venues under certain conditions. You register the ceremony through the municipality, and the officiant comes to the venue. Ask your municipality contact for the current requirements and fees, which vary depending on day and format.

what is included in a venue hire at @droog?

This depends on the configuration you choose. Spaces come with available AV equipment and an on-site team. Catering is handled through the in-house cafe restaurant, which sources locally and applies the same design thinking to the menu as to the space. Full details are covered in the quote process, which is worth starting early.

how many guests can @droog accommodate for a wedding?

It depends on which rooms you use and how. The cafe restaurant holds up to 180 standing or 70 seated. The grand space holds 90 seated or 160 standing. Combined with the white space, red space and garden, a full building event can accommodate well over 200 guests across different moments of the day. A ceremony in the red space, drinks in the garden, dinner in the cafe and dancing in the grand space is one way that has worked before.

does @droog offer outdoor space?

grand space in congres setting

Yes. There is a garden between the grand space and the red space. It works for drinks receptions, smaller ceremonies or simply a place to breathe between moments of the day. Four other rooms look into it, which makes it feel connected to the building rather than separate from it.

what should i ask a venue before signing a contract?

Ask for an itemised quote. Ask about catering flexibility, minimum spend, cancellation terms, access hours for setup and breakdown, AV availability, cleaning fees and deposit structure. Ask who your point of contact is on the day. Ask whether the venue has hosted weddings before and whether you can speak to someone who has used the space.

what to do next

A venue visit tells you more than a brochure ever will. The size of a room on paper and the feel of it in person are different things. If you are considering @droog for your wedding, the most useful step is a conversation about what you actually have in mind. Dates, numbers, format, feel. From there, a real quote takes shape.

No pressure, no package, no predetermined path. Just a building from 1641 with a lot of rooms and people who think carefully about how spaces should be used.

what does a wedding cost in amsterdam?

what does a wedding cost in amsterdam?

Wedding/trouwerij met blauwe loper in white space

No two weddings cost the same. That is the honest answer, and probably not the one you came here for. So here is a more useful one: in Amsterdam, a wedding with around 50 to 80 guests typically runs between €15,000 and €40,000, depending on the venue, catering, and how many decisions you make on instinct versus spreadsheet.

This guide breaks down what drives those numbers, what you can skip, what you cannot, and what Amsterdam specifically adds to the equation. It also looks at what a venue like @droog offers, because not every wedding needs a castle or a boat.

the short version: where does the money go?

Before going into detail, here is a rough breakdown of a mid-range Amsterdam wedding for 60 guests:

  • Venue hire: €2,500 to €8,000
  • Catering and drinks: €6,000 to €15,000 (roughly €100 to €250 per person)
  • Photography: €2,000 to €4,500
  • Music or DJ: €800 to €2,500
  • Flowers and decoration: €1,000 to €4,000
  • Wedding officiant: €400 to €1,200
  • Dress and suit: €1,500 to €5,000
  • Stationery and logistics: €300 to €800

Total range: roughly €14,500 to €41,000. That is before honeymoon, rings, or the hair and make-up appointment your partner has been planning since January.

venue costs in amsterdam: what you are actually paying for

Amsterdam has hundreds of venues. Canal boats, museum halls, rooftop terraces, hidden courtyards, converted warehouses. Venue hire alone can range from €500 for a small private room to €15,000 for a full-day exclusive buyout of a landmark space.

What determines the price?

  • Location in the city (canal ring versus outskirts)
  • Minimum spend requirements on food and drink
  • Exclusivity, meaning whether other events run alongside yours
  • Technical setup included (sound, lighting, AV)
  • Number of rooms available
  • Day of the week (Saturday commands a premium)

A Friday or Sunday wedding in Amsterdam can save you 20 to 30 percent on venue costs alone. That is not a small number.

what @droog offers for weddings

@droog is a building from 1641 in the centre of Amsterdam, on the Groenburgwal canal. It housed the Drapers’ Guild. It is now a venue rooted in Droog Design, which means every room has been thought through, not decorated. That distinction matters when you are picking a space for a wedding.

There are five rooms, and they can be combined depending on what your day looks like.

the white space is upstairs. Large white windows look out onto Amsterdam’s old canal houses and the garden below. It seats 50 with tables, or 70 in a theatre setting. The light changes throughout the day in a way that makes a photographer’s job easier. This is where the ceremony tends to work well, or a seated dinner for a smaller group.

the grand space is on the ground floor, with a sliding door that opens directly to the garden. It holds 90 seated or 160 standing. If you want dancing later in the evening, this is the room. It has a stage, sound system, and a beamer. It also connects directly to the garden, which matters in summer.

the red space is a theatre room in deep reds, pinks, orange and purple, with a round u-shaped tribune and professional theatre equipment. It seats 50 to 80. It is also the most surprising room in the building, which is saying something. If your wedding involves a performance, a screening, or a presentation that needs real impact, this is where it happens.

the library is a meeting room with yellow chairs, a long table, floral wallpaper based on a painting from the Rijksmuseum, and windows towards the garden. It fits 10 people around the table. It is a good room for a private dinner for immediate family, a signing moment, or a smaller gathering before the main event.

the cafe is at the top of the yellow hallway staircase, with a view of the Groenburgwal canal. Blue butterfly lamp, curved white tiled bar, a fireplace. It holds 70 seated or 180 standing. It is, depending on who you ask, the most beautiful room in the building. It also opens to the public daily for lunch, which tells you something about the quality of the food that comes out of the kitchen.

You do not have to pick one room. Most weddings at @droog use two or three, moving between them as the day moves from ceremony to dinner to drinks.

catering: the number that surprises most couples

Food and drink is almost always the largest single line item in a wedding budget. In Amsterdam, expect to pay between €80 and €150 per person for a seated dinner with wine, or €50 to €90 for a standing reception with bites and drinks. A full dinner-and-drinks evening for 60 people lands you somewhere between €5,000 and €9,000.

What pushes costs up:

  • Open bar versus drinks packages
  • Multiple courses versus a set menu
  • Dietary requirements that require separate preparation
  • Late-night snacks (which guests always appreciate more than they let on)

@droog works with local suppliers wherever possible. The kitchen is built around the idea that lunch is worth sitting down for, and the same thinking applies to dinner. The café restaurant handles catering for events in-house, which removes the coordination layer that often inflates costs at venues that outsource to third parties.

photography: do not cut here

Amsterdam is an exceptional city to be photographed in. The canal light in the late afternoon is something most photographers describe as unfair to the rest of the world. A good Amsterdam wedding photographer charges between €2,000 and €4,500 for a full day. That includes the ceremony, portraits, and the first part of the reception.

This is the one category where couples consistently say they wish they had spent more. The flowers are gone in a week. The photos are there for the rest of your life. Budget accordingly.

what a wedding at @droog actually costs

A realistic example. A wedding with 60 guests, ceremony and dinner in the white space, drinks and dancing in the grand space, with the library reserved for close family before the ceremony:

  • Venue hire: from €3,500 (multi-room, full day)
  • Catering and drinks: approximately €7,200 (€120 per person, mid-range dinner with wine)
  • Photography: €2,800
  • Music: €1,200 (DJ for the evening)
  • Flowers: €1,500 (modest, seasonal)
  • Officiant: €600
  • Stationery and logistics: €400

Running total: approximately €17,200, not including personal costs like dress, suit, rings, or accommodation for out-of-town guests. A comfortable budget for this format is €20,000 to €25,000.

For something larger, with 100 guests across more rooms and a more extensive catering programme, €35,000 to €45,000 is a realistic target.

hidden costs couples forget

These are the ones that appear in the final invoice and cause the quiet argument on the drive home.

  • Corkage fees if you bring your own wine
  • Sound equipment and technician hire
  • Coat check (guests notice when it is missing)
  • Overtime charges if the party runs past the agreed end time
  • Setup and breakdown time (many venues charge for this separately)
  • Security or cleaning fees built into contracts in small print
  • Gratuity for staff

At @droog, the setup is included in the venue conversation from the start. The building has its own technical infrastructure and staff. There are no third-party surprises. That matters when you are trying to hold a budget together across six months of planning.

amsterdam versus other dutch cities

Amsterdam is more expensive than Rotterdam, Utrecht, or The Hague for weddings. Venue costs run roughly 20 to 35 percent higher in the capital, and accommodation for guests follows the same logic. The Marriott on the Leidseplein charges differently than a hotel in Eindhoven, and there is nothing you can do about it.

What Amsterdam gives you in return: architecture, canal light, a city that looks like a painting at six in the evening, and venues that could not exist anywhere else. The Drapers’ Guild building at @droog is one of those. You are not renting a room. You are using a building that has been standing since 1641.

civil ceremony versus symbolic ceremony

In the Netherlands, a civil ceremony must take place at a registered location. Amsterdam has a number of registered venues, and @droog is one option for the reception or celebration that follows. Some couples register legally at the municipality earlier in the week, then hold their symbolic ceremony and celebration at the venue of their choice. This is increasingly common and removes the constraint of needing a registered location for your chosen space.

If you want the legal ceremony and the celebration in one place, check registration status with your venue at the start of the process, not the end.

how to reduce costs without reducing the day

event in de red space met bezoekers

A few things that consistently work:

  • Get married on a Friday. Most venues, including @droog, price weekday and Friday events differently from Saturday.
  • Keep the guest list honest. Every additional guest is roughly €100 to €200 in catering alone.
  • Choose seasonal food. A chef working with what is available now costs less than one building a menu around out-of-season ingredients.
  • Combine spaces rather than hiring a larger single room. Two medium rooms often work better than one large one, and the movement between them creates energy.
  • Skip the wedding coordinator and use the venue’s own team. At @droog, the staff have hosted enough events to be genuinely useful, not just polite.

frequently asked questions

how much does a wedding in amsterdam cost on average?
For 50 to 80 guests, expect to spend between €15,000 and €40,000 including venue, catering, photography, and personal costs. Smaller weddings of 20 to 30 guests can come in under €10,000 with careful planning.

is it cheaper to get married on a weekday in amsterdam?
Yes. Friday and weekday weddings typically cost 20 to 30 percent less in venue fees than a Saturday. The guests and the food cost the same.

can you have a wedding at @droog?
Yes. @droog has hosted weddings, PhD promotions, book launches, and everything in between. The white space works well for ceremonies and seated dinners. The grand space handles larger receptions. The rooms can be combined to fit the shape of your day.

what is the minimum number of guests for a wedding at @droog?
There is no fixed minimum. The library seats 10 for a private dinner. The cafe handles 70 seated. The combination of spaces scales up to 160 or more for a standing reception. The venue is flexible in a way that larger, more fixed spaces are not.

does @droog provide catering for weddings?
Yes. The cafe restaurant handles catering in-house, using local suppliers where possible. The menu is built around the idea that good food is specific, not generic.

how far in advance should you book a wedding venue in amsterdam?
For a Saturday in summer, 12 to 18 months in advance is not too early. For a Friday or an autumn wedding, 6 to 9 months is usually sufficient. Popular venues fill up quickly in June and September.

what is included in venue hire at @droog?
This depends on which rooms you use and the format of your event. The best way to get an accurate picture is to describe your day and ask for a quote. The team can tell you what is included and what requires additional arrangement.

one last thing

The building on Groenburgwal has been hosting people since 1641. It has seen markets, guild meetings, design exhibitions, and more than a few memorable evenings. It does not need to be dressed up to feel like something. That is, in the end, the practical argument for choosing a place with character over a place with a chandelier package.

If you want to know what a wedding at @droog would cost for your specific date, guest list, and format, the most useful thing is to just ask.

beste indoor trouwlocaties in amsterdam

beste indoor trouwlocaties in amsterdam: waarom @droog anders is

The red space is iets heel anders. Rood, roze, oranje, paars.

The grand space neemt tot 160 staande gasten, the cafe restaurant tot 180 staand.

De begane grond, inclusief the grand space en the red space, is toegankelijk zonder trappen.

Begin vroeg.

Vijf ruimtes.

Amsterdam is gewild.

Blauwe vlinderlamp, open keuken, open haard. Tot 180 staand, tot 70 zittend. Het meest designintensieve vertrek van het gebouw.

Rooms combineren mag altijd. Ceremony in the red space, diner in the cafe restaurant, borrel in the grand space met de tuin open.

verborgen kosten waar weinig koppels rekening mee houden

  • Bewaking of beveiliging. Bij grotere feesten soms verplicht. Rekening houden met 200 tot 600 euro per avond.
  • Extra uren.
  • Parkeer- of vervoersarrangement.

  3. Hoe flexibel is de tijdsplanning? Wanneer moet de locatie leeg zijn? Wat kost een uur uitloop?

veelgestelde vragen over trouwlocaties in Amsterdam

Ja.

kleding, haar en make-up

the white space

the grand space

the red space

the library

The library past tien mensen aan tafel.

the cafe

lunch place for weddings in amsterdam

a lunch place for weddings in amsterdam, where design does the work

You need somewhere to eat after a ceremony. Most people end up in a private dining room they could not describe the next day. @droog is different. It is a building from 1641 on the Groenburgwal canal, with five rooms that each carry their own character, and a cafe restaurant at the top of a yellow hallway staircase that looks out over the water. The food is local. The design is intentional. Nobody forgets the blue butterfly lamp.

This is not a wedding venue in the traditional sense. It is a place where design thinking and purpose-driven hospitality converge, which happens to make it one of the more interesting lunch spots in Amsterdam for a wedding party of almost any size.

why amsterdam couples choose @droog for their wedding lunch

There are obvious answers: the canal view, the historic building, the food. But the deeper reason is that @droog offers something most wedding lunch venues do not. Every room has been designed with deliberate intention. The wallpaper in the library is based on a painting from the Rijksmuseum. The bar in the cafe is curved white tile. The cushions in the theatre are movable. Nothing is generic. Nothing is filler.

When guests sit down for lunch here, they are already inside a conversation about design, craftsmanship and local culture. That is a good start to any celebration.

the spaces available for your wedding lunch

@droog has five distinct rooms. Most wedding lunches use one or two. Some use all of them. It depends on your guest count and how you want the day to feel.

the cafe restaurant: the most beautiful room in the building

At the top of the staircase, the cafe restaurant opens every day to the public for lunch and coffee. For a private wedding lunch, the entire space can be reserved. It seats 70, or holds up to 180 standing. The blue butterfly lamp designed by Tejo Remy hangs above the room. There is a fireplace. There is a curved white tiled bar. There is a view of the Groenburgwal canal through tall, bright windows. It is classical and cosy at the same time, which is a combination that is harder to find than it sounds.

The kitchen sources locally whenever possible. The menu reflects a philosophy, not just a season. If you want a wedding lunch that people will actually talk about at the dinner table years later, this room is the place to start.

  • Seats up to 70 (depending on setup)
  • Standing capacity: up to 180
  • Canal view over the Groenburgwal
  • Private hire available
  • Local sourcing, design-driven kitchen

the library: for an intimate wedding lunch

Ten people around a long table, yellow chairs, a flat chandelier overhead, and flowered wallpaper based on a Rijksmuseum painting. The library is not a room you forget. It looks out over the garden. It fits exactly ten at the table, no more. There is no room for pretending it is something larger than it is, which is part of what makes it feel so right for a small, close gathering.

If you are planning an intimate wedding lunch for the immediate family only, this is the room. A private dinner after a ceremony, a morning toast before leaving for the venue, a quiet celebration for ten people who matter most.

  • Seats up to 10 at the table
  • Garden view
  • Yellow chairs, Rijksmuseum-inspired wallpaper
  • Ideal for private dinners and intimate lunches

the white space: for larger wedding lunches and celebrations

Wedding/trouwerij met blauwe loper in white space

Upstairs, the white space offers large white windows looking out over old Amsterdam rooftops and the garden below. It seats up to 50 with tables, or 70 in a theatre setting. The light in this room is remarkable, especially on a summer afternoon. It works for a seated wedding lunch, a post-ceremony reception, or as a second room alongside the cafe restaurant when the guest count goes above 70.

Book launches, PhD celebrations, and small concerts have all happened here. A wedding lunch fits right in.

  • Seats up to 50 with tables
  • Theatre setting: up to 70
  • Large white windows, garden view, Amsterdam rooftop view
  • Beamer available

the grand space: when you want room to move

grand space in congres setting

The grand space is on the ground floor, with a sliding door that opens directly to the garden. Up to 90 seated, or 160 standing. It has a stage, a beamer, a sound system. For a wedding reception that flows from drinks to lunch to dancing, this is the room that gives you the most freedom. The garden is right there. The red space is adjacent. The whole ground floor can become one continuous celebration if that is what you are planning.

  • Seats up to 90
  • Standing capacity: up to 160
  • Sliding door to the garden
  • Stage, beamer, sound system
  • Connects to the garden and the red space

combining spaces for larger wedding parties

Events at @droog are not limited to one room. The building is a labyrinth, which sounds like a problem and is actually the point. A wedding lunch for 100 guests might use the cafe restaurant for the seated meal, the grand space for drinks beforehand, and the library as a quiet room for the wedding party to gather. The flow between rooms creates a sense of discovery that a single banquet hall simply cannot replicate.

Breakouts, ceremonies, dinners, recordings, celebrations: the building adapts. You decide what each room holds.

the food: local, intentional, worth sitting down for

The kitchen at @droog has been serving the same idea since the cafe opened: that lunch is worth sitting down for. Local sourcing is not a marketing claim here. It is built into how the kitchen operates. Seasonal ingredients, Amsterdam-based suppliers, dishes that reflect a design philosophy rather than a standard catering menu.

For a wedding lunch, the team works with you to shape a menu that fits the occasion. Whether that means a long, relaxed sit-down meal or a standing buffet with dishes that travel well around the room, the starting point is always the same: food that is honest, local and designed with care.

sustainability at @droog: built into the walls

The building itself is from 1641. Almost everything inside has been selected or built with environmental responsibility in mind. Re-used materials, sustainable construction, local sourcing: these are not additions to the @droog identity, they are the foundation of it. For couples who want their wedding lunch to reflect their values, not just their aesthetic, that matters.

Choosing @droog for your wedding lunch is not just a venue decision. It is a statement about how you want to start this chapter.

practical information: booking a wedding lunch at @droog

frequently asked questions: wedding lunch at @droog

can @droog host a wedding ceremony and lunch in the same building?

Yes. Several rooms lend themselves to a ceremony setting, particularly the red space with its round u-shaped tribune, or the white space upstairs. The cafe restaurant or grand space can then host the lunch immediately after. The transition between rooms is part of what makes the experience feel designed rather than improvised.

how many guests can attend a wedding lunch at @droog?

That depends on the room combination. The cafe restaurant alone seats 70. Add the grand space and you are looking at 90 seated or 160 standing. For very large parties, the full building opens up across multiple floors. For small, intimate lunches, the library holds ten around a single table. There is a configuration for almost every guest count.

does @droog provide catering for wedding lunches?

Yes. The kitchen operates in-house and sources locally wherever possible. The team works with you to shape a menu that fits the occasion, the season and the scale. There is no fixed catering package. The starting conversation is always: what do you want the meal to feel like?

is the cafe restaurant open to the public during a private wedding lunch?

No. When the cafe restaurant is booked for a private event, it is closed to the public for the duration. You have the room, the view and the kitchen entirely to yourselves.

can we bring our own decorations or flowers?

Yes. The rooms at @droog are designed to function as a canvas. You bring what the occasion needs. The team will advise on what works well within each space, but the aesthetic decisions are yours.

is the building accessible for guests with mobility needs?

The ground floor, including the grand space, the red space and the garden, is accessible. The upper floors, including the cafe restaurant, the white space and the library, are reached by staircase. If accessibility is a priority, the ground floor rooms are the practical choice. Reach out and the team will help you find the right configuration.

how far in advance should we book?

As early as possible, especially for weekend dates in spring and summer. The cafe restaurant and the grand space are the most requested rooms. A few months of lead time gives you the most flexibility on date, menu and setup. Some bookings come in with less notice and work out fine. It depends on availability.

what makes @droog different from other lunch venues in amsterdam?

Most lunch venues in Amsterdam offer a room and a menu. @droog offers a building with a philosophy. The design is not decoration. It is the reason the rooms feel the way they do. The food is not catering. It is an extension of a kitchen that has been thinking about what lunch should mean since the cafe opened. If you want your wedding lunch to feel deliberate rather than default, that difference is the whole point.

tell us what you have in mind

Every wedding lunch at @droog starts with a conversation. No fixed package, no standard offer. You describe what you want the day to feel like, and the team works out how the building can make that happen. The canal is outside. The design is already there. The food will be good. The rest is up to you.

what are the best months to get married in amsterdam? wedding location for 100 persons in amsterdam

what are the best months to get married in amsterdam?

June. That is the short answer. But the longer one is more useful.

Amsterdam is a city that works in every season, but it rewards those who plan around its rhythms. If you are looking for a wedding location for 100 persons in Amsterdam, the month you choose shapes everything: the light through the windows, the temperature in the garden, the availability of the spaces you actually want. This guide covers the best months, what each season gives you and what it costs you, and what to look for in a venue that fits a group of around 100 people.

the best months, ranked

Amsterdam has around 1,800 hours of sunshine per year, clustered between April and September. Within that window, not all months are equal.

June and early July are the clear peak. Average temperatures sit between 17 and 22 degrees Celsius. Daylight stretches past 9 PM. Canal reflections at golden hour look the way they do on every postcard you have ever seen. Demand for venues is at its highest, so booking 9 to 12 months in advance is not unusual for a group of 100.

May is the underrated option. The city is less crowded than July or August. Tulip season runs into early May in the region, which matters if your wedding photography extends beyond the venue. Temperatures average 14 to 18 degrees. Rain is possible but rarely heavy.

Late August and September offer warmth without the peak-summer pressure. September in particular has a quality of light that photographers talk about: lower sun, longer shadows, richer colour. Venue availability opens up again after the summer rush.

April is a gamble that sometimes pays off. It can be 20 degrees and dry. It can also be 10 degrees and wet. If you plan an outdoor element, build in a covered alternative.

October works well for a more intimate or interior-focused celebration. The city empties of tourists, canal water reflects autumn colours, and venues are often more flexible on date and setup. Not ideal if your ceremony depends on an open garden.

Winter months, November through February, bring short days and cold. But Amsterdam in December has its own logic: candlelight, dark water, long dinners. A venue with a fireplace becomes a different proposition entirely.

what changes with the season

Beyond temperature, three things shift depending on the month you choose.

First, price. June and July command premium rates from venues, caterers and photographers. Shoulder months like May and September offer the same city for less.

Second, daylight. A June wedding at 6 PM has three hours of golden-hour light before dusk. An October wedding at 6 PM is already dark. That changes the rhythm of the day entirely.

Third, the city itself. Amsterdam in summer is full. Hotels are expensive and often pre-booked. Your guests arriving from abroad will compete with three million annual tourists for accommodation. September and May put you in the same beautiful city with significantly less friction.

what to look for in a wedding location for 100 persons in amsterdam

Wedding/trouwerij met blauwe loper in white space

A group of 100 people is not a small gathering. It is not a private dinner. It sits at a size where layout decisions matter: how people move between spaces, where the ceremony happens versus the dinner, whether there is a room for the couple to step away from the crowd for a moment.

Here is what to check before you commit to a venue.

  • Seated capacity versus standing capacity. Many venues list 100 standing and then seat 60. Know which number applies to your format.
  • Ceremony and reception in one location. Moving 100 people across the city between ceremony and dinner is logistically difficult and often unnecessary. Look for a venue with at least two usable spaces.
  • Catering flexibility. Some venues require you to use their caterer. Others allow external chefs. Know which applies before you fall in love with a space.
  • Sound and technical equipment. Speeches, live music and a DJ all have different requirements. Check what is already installed.
  • Accessibility. Stairs are common in Amsterdam canal houses. For a group of 100, at least one accessible route matters.
  • A garden or outdoor element. Not required, but it changes the mood of the day entirely if the weather cooperates.

@droog as a wedding location for 100 persons

@droog is a building from 1641 on the Groenburgwal canal in the centre of Amsterdam. It was home to the Drapers Guild. It has been a design space, a gallery, a hotel and a restaurant. It is now one of the more interesting event venues in the city, partly because it does not look or feel like an event venue.

The building has five distinct spaces, each with its own character. For a wedding of around 100 people, the most logical combination is the white space, the grand space and the garden. But there are other configurations depending on your format.

the spaces, room by room

Rode ruimte (The Red Space) met de gordijnen open.

The grand space is on the ground floor, with a giant sliding door that opens directly onto the garden. It seats up to 90 people or fits 160 standing. It has a stage, a beamer and a sound system. Ceremonies, plenary sessions, drinks receptions and dinners have all happened here. It is also where Charlotte Tilbury and Shiseido put their pop-up stores, which gives you some sense of the scale and the light.

The white space is upstairs. Large white windows look out over the Amsterdam canal houses and down into the garden. It seats 70 in a theatre layout or 50 with tables. For a wedding ceremony with 60 to 70 seated guests, this room works well. The light is the detail that makes it: north-facing and steady throughout the day.

The red space is the theatre room. Completely red, orange and purple, with a u-shaped tribune and all the technical equipment of a professional stage. It seats up to 80, though 50 to 60 feel more comfortable. For a ceremony with a performative element, a live musician or a reading, this room has a presence that a hotel ballroom simply does not.

The library seats 10 around a long table. Flowered wallpaper based on a Rijksmuseum painting. Yellow chairs. A flat chandelier. This is the room you book for the couple, the immediate family or a private dinner for ten. Not for the full group of 100.

The cafe restaurant is at the top of the yellow hallway staircase, with a view over the Groenburgwal canal. Blue butterfly lamp, a curved white-tiled bar, a fireplace. It seats 70 or fits 180 standing. For a wedding dinner that wants to feel less like a banquet and more like a very good evening, this room delivers that.

Events at @droog are rarely limited to one space. A ceremony in the white space, drinks in the garden, dinner in the cafe restaurant: that is a full wedding day without leaving the building.

request quote

the garden

A courtyard in the middle of the city centre. It has windows from four other rooms looking into it. It seats 60. For a June or September wedding, the garden changes the entire feel of the day: arrivals, drinks, photographs, a moment away from the crowd. It is the detail that is hardest to find in central Amsterdam and easiest to take for granted once you have it.

design as a backdrop

@droog is rooted in Droog Design principles. That is not a marketing phrase. It means the furniture, the fittings and the details have been chosen with deliberate reasoning. The Tejo Remy chest of drawers made from salvaged wood sits in the gallery. The butterfly lamp in the cafe was designed by Demakersvan. The flowered wallpaper in the library is based on a Jan van Huysum painting from the Rijksmuseum. None of these things are decoration. They are the point.

For a wedding, that matters more than it might seem. Your guests spend four to eight hours in a space. A space that gives them something to look at, something to talk about and something to remember is a different kind of hospitality than a neutral room with white tablecloths.

sustainability at the venue

Sustainability is part of the building’s identity, not an add-on. Local sourcing is prioritised in the kitchen. The building itself has been constructed and maintained with environmental responsibility in mind. If your wedding has a sustainability policy, @droog is a venue that supports it rather than contradicts it.

frequently asked questions

What is the best month to get married in Amsterdam?
June offers the best combination of warmth, daylight and reliable weather. May and September are strong alternatives with fewer crowds and more venue availability.

How far in advance should I book a wedding venue in Amsterdam for 100 people?
For June and July, 9 to 12 months is realistic. For shoulder months like May, September and October, 6 to 9 months is usually sufficient. The earlier you confirm, the more flexibility you have on catering and setup.

Can a wedding of 100 people fit in one venue in Amsterdam?
Yes, but the format matters. A seated dinner for 100 requires a different room than a ceremony for 100, which requires a different layout again. The venues that handle this best are those with multiple connected spaces, so ceremony, drinks and dinner can each have their own setting without relocating the group.

Does @droog do civil weddings?
The spaces at @droog can be configured for a civil ceremony. For legal registration, you will need to coordinate with Amsterdam’s municipality (Gemeente Amsterdam), which authorises officiants. @droog can host the ceremony itself and everything that follows.

Is the venue accessible for guests with mobility requirements?
The ground floor spaces, including the grand space and the garden, are accessible. The upper spaces involve stairs. This is worth discussing during your site visit so the layout can be planned accordingly.

Can we bring our own caterer?
This is something to discuss directly with the @droog team. The cafe restaurant has its own kitchen and service. Depending on the format of your event, different arrangements are possible.

What happens if it rains on the day?
The grand space and the cafe restaurant both offer indoor coverage for the full group of 100. The garden is a bonus when the weather cooperates, not a dependency. A good venue plan always has an indoor alternative that works on its own terms.

Is @droog only for design-industry weddings?
No. The building attracts people who want something that does not look like every other event venue in Amsterdam. That covers a wide range of couples and a wide range of wedding formats. The design is a backdrop, not a theme you have to match.

practical considerations for a wedding of 100 in amsterdam

A few things that are easy to overlook when planning a wedding in Amsterdam specifically.

Guest accommodation. The city centre has hundreds of hotels within walking distance of most venues, but availability in June and July fills quickly. Send accommodation suggestions to guests at least three months before the date.

Transport. Amsterdam’s centre is compact. Many guests will walk or cycle between locations. For those arriving from outside the city, Centraal Station is 10 minutes by taxi from the Groenburgwal area.

Photography. The canal at Groenburgwal, the narrow streets around the building and the garden itself are all usable without a permit. For photography on bridges or in Vondelpark, permits are sometimes required. Check in advance.

Sound restrictions. Amsterdam has noise ordinances that affect outdoor amplified sound after a certain hour. Know the cutoff time for any outdoor music or speeches in the garden.

The week of the event. Amsterdam hosts large festivals and events throughout the summer. King’s Day is 27 April. Pride Amsterdam runs in late July or early August. Both affect hotel pricing and canal access. Neither is a reason to avoid those dates, but they are worth knowing about.

why the venue matters as much as the month

The best month in Amsterdam cannot compensate for a venue that feels like a function room. And the right venue makes a less-than-perfect weather day irrelevant.

What a venue for 100 people needs to do is give the day a sense of place. Not just a room, but a building with a history, a logic, a reason to be there. @droog has been on the Groenburgwal since 1641. It has held everything from guild meetings to theatre performances to board meetings in the same week. A wedding fits that history well.

The spaces are different enough from each other that a full day of events, ceremony, drinks, dinner and a late evening, each feel distinct. That is harder to achieve than it sounds in a city centre building. Most venues give you one large room with movable partitions. @droog gives you five rooms with five different characters and a garden connecting them.

If you are planning a wedding in Amsterdam for around 100 people and you want a space that earns its place in the day rather than just housing it, this is worth a visit.

wedding location with garden in amsterdam

a wedding location with a garden in amsterdam, and a building that dates back to 1641

Wedding/trouwerij met blauwe loper in white space

Most wedding venues in Amsterdam will tell you about their atmosphere. @droog would rather tell you about the courtyard, the canal view, the blue butterfly lamp, and the flowered wallpaper based on a painting in the Rijksmuseum. Those details do the talking.

@droog sits on the Groenburgwal in the heart of Amsterdam. The building is from 1641, originally home to the Drapers’ Guild. It has been many things since. Right now it is a design house, a restaurant, a gallery, a meeting space, and yes, a wedding location with a garden that not many people in Amsterdam know exists.

the garden

A courtyard in the middle of the city centre, enclosed by the building on all sides. Seats 60. Four different rooms look out onto it from above, which means your guests inside still feel connected to what is happening outside. The garden connects directly to the grand space and the red space, so moving between ceremony, drinks, and dinner does not require anyone to walk a single step outside onto the street.

It is a green, quiet pocket in a city that is rarely quiet. That contrast is worth something.

what a wedding at @droog looks like

There is no standard wedding package here. There is a building with five distinct spaces, a kitchen with a chef, a design philosophy that runs through every room, and a team that will help you figure out what the day should actually look like. The spaces can be combined. Most weddings here use more than one.

A common flow: ceremony in the red space, drinks in the garden, dinner in the cafe restaurant or the grand space. But that is just one version. PhD promotions, book launches, and theatre performances have all happened here in the same week. A wedding fits right in.

the spaces, one by one

event in de red space met bezoekers

the grand space
Ground floor, sliding door to the garden, stage included. Up to 90 seated, 160 standing. A beamer and sound system are built in. Brands like Charlotte Tilbury and Shiseido have used this space for pop-up stores. It has also held conferences, panel discussions, and parties. For a wedding, it works as a ceremony space, a reception hall, or a dinner room, depending on how you set it up.

the red space
This is the theatre. Red, pink, orange, purple, a round u-shaped tribune with movable cushions. Seats up to 80, though 50 to 60 gives everyone a bit more room. It is equipped with professional theatre lighting and sound. For a civil ceremony or a more intimate programme, this room has something no other room in Amsterdam quite has: it makes people feel like they are watching something that matters.

the white space
Upstairs, with large white windows looking out over the old Amsterdam rooftops and the garden below. Up to 70 in theatre setting, 50 seated with tables. Good light, good proportions, quiet. This room has held weddings before. It fits the moment.

the library
A long table, yellow chairs, a flat chandelier, flowered wallpaper from a Rijksmuseum painting. Seats 10. This is the room for the small dinner after, or for the family lunch the next day. Not a room you forget.

the cafe
At the top of the yellow hallway staircase, with a view over the Groenburgwal canal. The blue butterfly lamp. A curved white tiled bar. A fireplace. Up to 180 standing, 70 seated. Tall, bright, and somehow also intimate. This is the room that surprises people most. They come in expecting a café and they find something that looks like it was designed for a wedding.

why couples choose @droog

The short answer: it does not look like a wedding venue. That is the point.

Many couples looking for a wedding location with a garden in Amsterdam are also looking for something that reflects who they are. A design-forward space. A place with history. Somewhere that does not come with a wedding menu and a coordinator named Sandra. @droog offers a canvas, not a template.

The building itself is the detail that most venues try to manufacture. Here it already exists: the original 1641 structure, preserved and layered with decades of Droog Design decisions. Every chair, lamp, tile, and table has a reason to be there. Guests notice. They ask questions. That is a good sign at a wedding.

Sustainability is built into the building, not added on top. Local sourcing, responsible construction, a kitchen that thinks about what it serves and where it comes from. If that matters to you, it matters here too.

what to consider when choosing a wedding location with a garden in amsterdam

Amsterdam has many beautiful spaces. A few things worth thinking through before you decide:

  • size. How many guests? The spaces at @droog range from 10 to 180. Knowing your guest count helps determine which rooms to combine.
  • flow. Where does the ceremony happen, where do drinks go, where is dinner? A good venue has rooms that connect naturally. @droog is built around that logic.
  • the outdoor element. A garden in Amsterdam is rare. Having a garden that is also sheltered, connected to multiple indoor spaces, and sits in the city centre is rarer. Weather in the Netherlands is what it is. Having indoor spaces directly adjacent is not optional, it is essential.
  • catering. The cafe restaurant at @droog has its own kitchen. Lunch and dinner are served daily to the public. For events, the kitchen can be arranged for your day. Local sourcing, design-led plating, no generic wedding buffet.
  • logistics. The Groenburgwal is easy to reach by foot, bike, and public transport. Parking in this part of Amsterdam requires planning, which is true of every venue in the centre.
  • exclusivity. When you book @droog for your wedding, you are booking the space, not sharing it. The building is yours for the day.

frequently asked questions

can we hold a civil ceremony at @droog?
Yes. Several spaces are suitable for a registered ceremony. The red space, with its theatre tribune and professional lighting, is the most dramatic option. The white space, with its canal-side light, is the quieter choice. Both work. The garden works too, weather permitting.

how many guests can @droog accommodate?
That depends on which spaces you combine. The cafe restaurant alone seats 70, the grand space seats 90. Together with the garden, you are looking at a venue that can comfortably hold 150 to 200 guests across a full programme, from ceremony to dinner.

is the garden covered?
No. The courtyard is open-air. For spring and summer weddings this is a significant asset. For autumn and winter, the indoor spaces immediately adjacent mean you are never more than a few steps from shelter. Most couples plan their outdoor moment and keep the rest inside.

can we bring our own catering?
@droog has its own kitchen and preferred approach to food. The team can discuss your needs directly. What comes out of that kitchen is worth the conversation.

is @droog available for weekend weddings?
Yes. Availability varies by date. The earlier you reach out, the better.

what makes @droog different from other wedding venues in amsterdam?
The building is from 1641. The design is intentional, not decorative. The garden exists in the middle of the city centre. The spaces are genuinely different from each other. And the team thinks about events the way designers think about problems: what is the purpose, what should the guest experience, and how does the space support that? Most venues do not start there.

do you offer wedding packages?
There are no fixed packages. Every enquiry is treated as its own project. You describe what you have in mind, and the team responds with what is possible. That flexibility is the point.

can we visit the spaces before booking?
Yes. Reach out and arrange a viewing. Seeing the building in person changes the conversation.

a word on design thinking and weddings

@droog is rooted in Droog Design, a movement that came out of the Netherlands in the early 1990s and asked a simple question: does this object need to exist, and if so, why does it look like this? That question applies to events too.

A wedding at @droog tends to reflect that philosophy, not because the venue imposes it, but because the space invites it. When you are standing in a room where every lamp, chair, and surface was chosen with intention, you start thinking about your own choices the same way. What do we actually want this day to feel like? What details matter? What can we leave out?

That is a good place to start planning a wedding.

the practical side

  • Location: Groenburgwal, Amsterdam city centre
  • Building: 1641, formerly the Drapers’ Guild
  • Garden: courtyard, seats 60, open-air, connected to grand space and red space
  • Spaces available: grand space, red space, white space, library, cafe restaurant

tell us what you have in mind

Every wedding here has been different. That is the intention. If you are looking for a wedding location with a garden in Amsterdam that does not look like every other wedding location with a garden in Amsterdam, this is a reasonable place to start.

The building has been here since 1641. It is not going anywhere. But the dates fill up. Reach out early, describe what you are thinking, and the team will tell you what is possible.

The white space is een verdieping hoger.

The library is iets heel anders.

Ruimtes combineren is altijd mogelijk. Een ceremonie in the grand space, lunch in the cafe, een afsluiting buiten in de tuin. Of een intieme lunch in the library gevolgd door borrel in the white space.

Receptie buiten, lunch binnen. Of andersom.

The cafe zit 70 gasten comfortabel.

Mogen we onze eigen cateraar meenemen?
We denken mee.

In overleg.

Hoe vroeg moeten we boeken?

The white space zit boven.

Naast the grand space ligt de tuin.

veelgestelde vragen over trouwen in amsterdam

Ceremonie in the white space, ontvangst in the grand space of tuin, diner in the cafe.

The grand space biedt 160 staand en 90 zittend.

Duurzaamheid zit erin verankerd. Lokale inkoop, duurzame constructie, bewuste materiaalkeuze.

the grand space: ceremonie of feest

the red space: intiem en memorabel

the white space: licht en uitzicht

Wedding/trouwerij met blauwe loper in white space

Boven.

Kleine kamer, lange tafel.

  • Ontvangst in de tuin of the grand space, gasten komen binnen, drankje, eerste moment samen
  • Ceremonie in the grand space of the red space, afhankelijk van het aantal gasten en de sfeer die je zoekt
  • Diner in the white space of the cafe, of privé in the library voor wie klein wil houden
  • Feest in the cafe of the grand space, afhankelijk van of je wilt dansen of loungen

The grand space: 90 zittend of 160 staand. The red space: 50 tot 80. The white space: 70 in theatersetting of 50 zittend. The cafe: 70 zittend of 180 staand. The library: 10 aan tafel.

The red space heeft professionele theatertechniek.

The library past geen 20 mensen. The red space voelt leeg met 15 aanwezigen.

is amsterdam the right city for my event?

is amsterdam the right city for my event?

Short answer: probably yes. But that depends on what you actually need from a city, not just a postcard version of one. Amsterdam has canals, history and a certain creative reputation that travels well. It also has a compact city centre, good international connections and a concentration of design, culture and innovation that makes it a logical meeting point for people who care about more than just a room with chairs.

This article walks through what Amsterdam can and cannot do for your event, what to look for in a venue, and why the building your meeting happens in changes the meeting itself.

what makes a city good for events?

Before you settle on Amsterdam, it helps to be clear about what you are actually optimising for. Most event organisers think about logistics first: flights, hotels, travel time. That is sensible. But it is only half the picture.

The city and venue you choose send a signal to your attendees before the first slide goes up. A city known for design and creative thinking attracts a different kind of attention than a convention centre in an airport district. That signal is not decoration. It is part of the programme.

Here is what actually matters when choosing a city for a B2B event:

  • International accessibility: how easy is it to get there from your key attendee cities?
  • Concentration of relevant industries: is the creative, tech or design ecosystem you want to tap into actually present?
  • Venue quality and variety: can you find a space that fits your event rather than forcing your event to fit the space?
  • Cultural context: does the city support the narrative you want your event to tell?
  • Cost and value: what do you get for what you spend?

Amsterdam scores well on all of these. It consistently ranks as one of Europe’s top cities for international business events, with Schiphol airport connecting to over 300 destinations and a city centre you can cross in twenty minutes by bike or tram.

the case for amsterdam

Amsterdam is not a neutral choice. It is a city with a point of view. The Netherlands has a long history of design, trade and pragmatism, and that combination shows up in how the city works, how its creative industry thinks and how people behave in meetings here.

A few things that make Amsterdam stand out as an event city:

Compact geography. The city centre is walkable. Your speakers, delegates and dinner guests do not lose an hour each way in transit. That matters for full-day and multi-day programmes where energy is everything.

International fluency. English is effectively a working language across Amsterdam’s professional and hospitality sectors. Logistics are smoother, communication with suppliers is faster and your international attendees arrive in a city that already speaks their language.

A creative and design ecosystem. Amsterdam is home to the Dutch Design Week satellite community, the Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum, a dense network of studios and agencies and a long tradition of design culture. If your event touches on innovation, sustainability, communication or creative problem-solving, the city itself becomes part of the context.

Variety of venue types. From converted canal houses to contemporary galleries to design-led event spaces, Amsterdam has an unusual concentration of venues with character. You do not have to settle for a hotel ballroom with a black curtain backdrop.

what amsterdam cannot do

It is worth being honest here. Amsterdam is not the right city for every event.

If you need to host 2,000 people under one roof with exhibition space, loading docks and a motorway nearby, Amsterdam is not your best option. The RAI convention centre handles large-scale congresses, but the heart of the city works better for smaller, high-quality gatherings where depth of experience matters more than scale.

Hotel availability in the city centre is also limited relative to some other European capitals. If your group needs 200 hotel rooms within walking distance of your venue, you may need to plan further in advance than you expect. Booking 6 to 12 months out is not unusual for peak periods.

And if your event depends on massive catering operations with industrial kitchen requirements, some of Amsterdam’s most interesting venues simply are not built for that volume. Know your priorities before you fall in love with a space.

the building changes the meeting

Library vergaderzaal (meeting space)

This is the part that most event briefs underestimate. Where you hold a meeting changes what happens in the meeting. A room with one door, no daylight and a branded pull-up banner at the front produces a certain kind of thinking. A room with 400 years of history, a designer’s furniture and a garden outside the window produces something else.

@droog sits in a building from 1641 on the Staalstraat in Amsterdam’s city centre. It used to house the Drapers’ Guild. Since 1993 it has been a home for design culture, and the building itself reflects that: nothing inside is accidental.

The space was conceived around Droog Design principles, which means every object, surface and room arrangement has been chosen with deliberate reasoning. Guests who arrive for a product launch or a leadership offsite do not walk into a generic event shell. They walk into an argument about how things should be made and why.

That is what @droog is for. Not to be impressive. To change the frame before the programme begins.

the spaces at @droog

event in de red space met bezoekers

Five rooms, all different. All on one site. You can use them individually or combine them for a full-day or multi-day programme with breakouts, dinners, plenaries and everything in between.

the grand space. Ground floor, sliding door to the garden, stage at the front. Seats 90 or stands 160. This is where conferences happen, panel discussions happen, networking drinks happen. Equipped with beamer and sound system. Large enough for a pop-up store, which Charlotte Tilbury and Shiseido have both done here.

the red space. Deep red, pink, orange, purple. A professional theatre with a round U-shaped tribune that seats up to 80. Accessible from the grand space or the garden. This is where shows happen, screenings happen, immersive formats happen. Fifty to sixty people feel right here. Twenty or fewer and the space starts to swallow the group.

the white space. Upstairs. Large white windows looking out to Amsterdam rooftops and the garden. Seats 70 in theatre setting, 50 with tables. This room has held trainings, book launches, PhD promotions and weddings. It is flexible in a way that does not feel like a compromise.

the library. Also upstairs. Yellow chairs around a long table, a flat chandelier above, flowered wallpaper drawn from a Rijksmuseum painting. Ten people maximum at the table. This is where the twelve-person meetings happen that would have died in a hotel conference room. It also works as a private dining room.

the cafe. At the top of the yellow staircase. Open daily for lunch and coffee, with views over the Groenburgwal canal. A blue butterfly lamp, a curved white tiled bar, a fireplace, an inside-out cafe concept. Stands 180, seats 70. This may be the most beautiful room in the building. It is available for your event too.

Events are not limited to one room. Add rooms as you need them. Breakouts in the library, plenary in the grand space, drinks in the cafe, a show in the red space. The building is designed to hold a full day.

what kind of events work well here?

The short list: conferences, panel discussions, workshops, trainings, leadership offsites, product launches, press events, symposiums, recording sessions, live-streams, PhD promotions, book launches, private dinners, networking events, celebrations.

The longer answer: any event where the environment is part of the message. If you are gathering people to think differently, to launch something that challenges the status quo, or to bring together a community that values craft and intention, @droog is built for that.

If you need a neutral backdrop, this is probably not the right space. But then Amsterdam’s city centre is probably not the right city either.

sustainability and local sourcing

These are not add-ons at @droog. They are structural. The building itself reflects a commitment to sustainable design. Nearly everything inside has been chosen or built with environmental responsibility in mind. Catering prioritises local sourcing, and the kitchen reflects that in what it puts on the table.

If sustainability is part of your event’s narrative, or part of your organisation’s values, the venue reinforces that without you having to explain it. The building makes the argument for you.

For organisations with ESG commitments or CSR reporting requirements, choosing a venue that is genuinely aligned with those values, rather than certified on paper, is increasingly important. Attendees notice the difference.

frequently asked questions

Is Amsterdam easy to reach from other European cities?
Yes. Schiphol connects to over 300 destinations worldwide. Travel time from London is roughly an hour by plane or four hours by Eurostar. From Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt and Cologne, train travel is practical and increasingly preferred. The city centre is about 20 minutes from the airport by direct train.

How far in advance should I book a venue in Amsterdam?
For peak periods (spring and autumn, especially around Dutch Design Week in October), 6 to 12 months is realistic. For less busy periods, 3 to 6 months usually gives you good options. At @droog specifically, availability varies by room and combination, so the earlier you reach out the better.

What is the maximum capacity at @droog?
This depends on which rooms you use and how. The grand space alone holds up to 160 standing or 90 seated. The cafe holds up to 180 standing. Combined, the full building can accommodate a meaningful full-day programme for groups ranging from 10 to several hundred, depending on format.

Is @droog only for design industry events?
No. The design background creates the context and the culture of the space, but the building hosts events across sectors: finance, tech, pharma, fashion, education, government and more. What they tend to share is an interest in doing things with intention rather than by default.

Can I combine multiple rooms for a full-day programme?
Yes, and this is one of the strengths of @droog. You can run a plenary in the grand space, breakouts in the library or white space, lunch in the cafe and a closing session in the red space. The building is compact enough that moving between rooms takes seconds, not minutes.

Does @droog handle catering?
The cafe restaurant is on-site and available for your event. Catering is built around local sourcing and can be tailored to your programme, whether that is a working lunch, a formal dinner or drinks at the end of the day.

Is Amsterdam expensive compared to other event cities?
Amsterdam sits in the middle range of European event cities. It is more expensive than some Eastern European capitals but generally more affordable than London or Zurich. The value case is strongest when the city and venue align with your event’s purpose, because you are not paying just for square metres but for a context that works.

What makes @droog different from other Amsterdam venues?
The building has been a home for design culture since 1993. Everything inside reflects a design philosophy, not a decoration scheme. You are not renting a room with a view. You are borrowing an argument about how things should be made, and placing your event inside it.

before you decide

Here are the questions worth answering before you commit to a city or a venue:

  • What do you want your attendees to feel when they walk in? Before the programme starts.
  • What does the space say about what you value?
  • Is the environment going to work for you or against you?
  • Are you choosing a city because it is convenient, or because it is right?

Amsterdam is not the answer to every question. But for events that want to create something lasting, where the thinking matters as much as the agenda, it is one of the better cities in Europe to do it in. And @droog is one of the better buildings in Amsterdam to do it from.

The building is from 1641. The design thinking is from 1993. The room can be yours next month. Tell us what you have in mind.

Alles is dichtbij.

Ideaal voor plenaire sessies, paneldiscussies, netwerkborrels of pop-up stores.

the red space.

the library, ook boven.

the cafe bovenaan de gele trappenhal.

Een ochtendsessie in the grand space, breakouts in the library en the white space, lunch in the cafe.

veelgestelde vragen over evenementen in amsterdam

The grand space en the cafe werken voor grotere groepen.

Ja.
