Do Break Vase by Frank Tjepkema and Peter van der Jagt

De Break Vase, 2001
This vase was designed to be broken. At first, it appears simple and undecorated, but the real design only emerges after impact. This vase can stand rough handling! Do Break is a plain vase without any decoration; you have to drop it to give it a beautiful craquelé structure.
Made from porcelain with a rubber lining hidden inside, the vase cracks while still holding together and remaining functional. The rubber inside makes sure it doesn’t literally fall into a thousand pieces. Every break creates a unique pattern, making each vase personal and impossible to repeat.
Balancing fragility with humour and experimentation, Do Break challenges the traditional idea of perfection in design. The moment when you throw Do Break will become a lasting memory.
