Got a story to tell? The Grand Space is the – you’ve guessed it – biggest space @droog. It’s a great, soundproofed space for storytellers to take the stage, or talented speeches to share their words of inspiration.

For the following few weeks, the stage is occupied by the world’s most iconic speeches. Sit down and listen to Martin Luther King, Greta Thunberg, Charlie Chaplin and more. Let their words and emotions inspire you during your next visit

It’s Summer, which means the Fairytale Garden is open again! A great place to cool off and unwind from the busy city centre. Have a seat, drink your (iced) coffee or enjoy your lunch in this secret green oasis.

Good to know: we do not accept reservations for outside, drop by and have a look if there’s a free table!

September schrijfcursus met Yvonne Kroonenberg

Overweeg je de sprong in het diepe te maken? Zie jij het schrijversbestaan he-le-maal zitten? Kom dan naar deze 3-delige schrijfcursus @droog

Tijdens deze drie sessies, gaat succesvol auteur Yvonne Kroonenberg (o.a. bekend als columnist voor de Playboy en auteur van bestseller “Alles went behalve een vent”) dieper in op de Nederlandse taal. En dan met name hoe je de Nederlandse taal inzet om een goed verhaal op papier te krijgen.

Yvonne heeft al bijna 40 boeken uitgebracht, en heeft menig manuscript voorbij zien komen van aspirant auteurs. Verwacht dus kundige en eerlijke feedback op jouw werk tijdens deze literaire zondagochtenden.

Wat staat er op het programma?
– beginnersfouten leren herkennen en voorkomen
– je hebt een boekidee, wat nu?
– perspectief, wie vertelt het verhaal?
– toekomst of verleden tijd, wanneer en waarom?
– en nog veel meer de diepte in over taal, en de kunst van verhalen vertellen op papier
– voorgaande aan de eerste sessie op 4 september willen we vragen of je een kort verhaal van 500 woorden wilt schrijven. Neem dit uitgedraaid mee!

De Iraakse keuken met Sara Shawkat

Donderdag 15 september hosten we de eerstvolgende donderdagavond@droog met niemand minder dan Sara Shawkat. Met haar debuutkookboek NOOMI (komt uit op 16 augustus) geeft ze ons een kijkje in een zeer onbelichte keuken: de Iraakse keuken. Van comfort food tot culinaire hoogstandjes: Sara neemt je mee op reis door haar Levantijnse regio & keuken.

Droog/Brain Dead Rag Chair by Tejo Remy

Tejo Remy’s Rag Chair (1993) is an iconic Droog design – currently on display in the gallery@droog. It is known for re-using materials and minimizing waste, something that resonates with Los Angeles-based creative collective Brain Dead.

It’s a fact that the clothing industry is one of the most polluting industries to date – something Brain Dead is fighting. What can be done with leftovers, samples and flawed fabrics? You can upcycle them and revive them into a Rag Chair.

The Rag Chair for Brain Dead by Tejo Remy will be shown at Spazio Maiocchi during Milan Design Week next week.

14 juni: literair op dinsdag @droog

Jaloers naar de Insta-posts van feestgangers op het laatste Boekenbal gekeken? Loop je al jaren rond met een boekidee? Of sta je juist op het punt de moed op te geven na de zoveelste afwijzing van een uitgever?

Kom dan naar de eerste Literair op dinsdag @droog.
Niemand minder dan megaseller-schrijver en psycholoog Yvonne Kroonenberg legt ons op de bank en doet uit de doeken hoe je meer dan veertig boeken uitgegeven krijgt. Succesdebutant Janneke Siebelink (Soms sneeuwt het in April, AmboAnthos ) deelt haar ervaringen met uitgevers en hoe je binnen een week een vierde druk kan vieren.

Dus, ben je van plan een boek te schrijven? Of heb je al stevig iets op papier staan? Ben je een stap aan het zetten naar uitgevers? Boek dan nu je ticket naar succes.

Literair op dinsdag @droog is de plek waar schrijvers, uitgevers en lezers elkaar ontmoeten en inspireren. @droog is het clubhuis van design- en kunstliefhebbers.

SOLD OUT: kookboekdiner & launch ‘Java’ 25 Mei

Het kookboekdiner met Maureen Tan op woensdagavond 25 mei is helemaal uitverkocht. Bedankt iedereen die erbij is volgende week woensdag. Eén ding staat al vast: er komt een prachtig menu tevoorschijn uit kookboek ‘Java’!

Op de avond zelf is het ook mogelijk om het gloednieuwe kookboek – inclusief handtekening! – aan te schaffen. Let op: we accepteren alleen pin.

pop-up expo: Bas Kosters – Art is where the heart is

Bas Kosters presenteert Art is where the heart is. De Grand Space wordt de hele maand Mei een liefdevol huis vol kunst. Een expositie met verzameld werk van kunstenaar Bas Kosters uit de periode 2017 tot 2022. Voor Bas zijn de redenen voor het maken van zijn werken het communiceren van gedachten, verhalen en emoties.

De allernieuwste projecten worden hier getoond, projecten over veiligheid, transformatie en vreugde. Ook zijn sommige werken hier slechts eenmalig te zien.

In de maand Mei wordt er in de Grand space ook gewerkt door Bas Kosters en team aan nieuwe kunstwerken, kom een kijkje nemen tijdens het werkproces.

De aanleiding van de expositie is een hele speciale serie tekeningen, het project 100MJ.
Van dit project wordt op 13 Mei zijn nieuwste boek “100MJ” gelanceerd.

14th of May: 24H Amsterdam @droog

We’re delighted to announce that @droog will be partaking in this year’s 24H Amsterdam program!

What is 24H?
On Saturday the 14th of May, the people of Amsterdam get the opportunity to (re)discover their city within 24 hours. This year, the programming will be all about the historical city centre of Amsterdam. Many different locations are participating, so there will be something interesting to do every hour of the day.

Here @droog, we organize several guided tours through the heritage of Droog Design in combination with breakfast, lunch or drinks in the café upstairs. Come by and start your day with a healthy breakfast and walk through the maze of Droog, or take a short break for lunch or a refreshment while you’re on your voyage of discovery through our beautiful city.

The second week of May marks a very significant date: we have our very first chef in residence staying over @droog! 

Vegan sushi master Asako will be staying at the one and only Hotel Room and is bringing the Japanese traditional cuisine with her. This means we have a very tempting opportunity for culinary enthusiasts, as you’re invited to join her for a traditional Japanese night, celebrating the heritage of one of the most refined cuisines out there.  

This is your chance to experience the Japanese culinary journey as it should be: in an intimate setting, with the chef herself at the table to explain the philosophy behind each dish as well as the crockeries she brought from Japan. We have a very detailed menu planned for you, including a paired sake tasting and Japanese tea. Will you join us in the hotel room @droog
