Do Link Lamp, 2000

The Do Link lamp is not a conventional lighting object, but an open-ended design that invites user participation. Created around 2000 as part of the experimental “Do Create” project, it challenges the idea of a finished product by leaving part of the design intentionally incomplete.

The lamp consists only of a base and a shade, with the middle structure missing. Users are encouraged to fill this gap using everyday objects such as cans, bottles, or books, effectively “linking” the two parts together. As a result, each lamp becomes unique, shaped by personal choices and available materials.

This approach turns the user into a co-designer and promotes a more active relationship with objects. At the same time, it reflects a critique of consumer culture by encouraging reuse instead of consumption. The lamp is never fixed; it can be rearranged and reinterpreted over time.

More than just a functional object, the Do Link lamp represents a shift in design thinking — the one that values process, creativity, and participation over perfection and permanence.
