Do Connect, 2000

Designed by Dinie Besems and Thomas Widdershoven, Do Connect is a flexible system of short chain segments, each measuring approximately 13 centimetres, made from silver, metal and plastic. Each component has its own appearance, but all can be linked, separated and rearranged in different combinations.

The same set of elements can become a necklace, a bracelet or even a practical household object. Its form is never final: the user can continually rebuild it, changing both its function and visual character without adding or removing any parts.

Shaped for Droog’s Do Create project, Do Connect explores design as an ongoing process rather than a fixed result. The designers provide the components, while the user determines how they relate to one another and what the object becomes.
