Do Cut is a tall, hollow form designed without a fixed purpose. Supplied with a saw, it invites the user to cut into the object and decide what it will become. Depending on where the cuts are made, the separate sections can be transformed into a stool, vase, lampshade or other functional objects. Each decision is permanent, making the user responsible for the design’s final form and function.

Do Cut presented the design not as a completed object but as stored potential. Stadler supplied the material and possible forms, while the owner’s decision and willingness to make the first cut completed the work.

Do Cut was created as part of Droog’s Do Create project, which invited users to take an active role in completing each design. Rather than offering a finished object, the project presented a starting point that only gained its final form through the user’s actions.
