Packaging Paper and Label by Hella Jongerius
For Packaging Paper & Label, Hella Jongerius created a shared identity for Oranienbaum’s shops and local products. Bright paper bags, wrapping sheets and labels were made from both new and recycled paper. Often printed in just two colours, their simple graphics clearly showed what was inside and how it could be used.
Another design for the 1999 Couleur Locale project by Jongerius was an Orange Fruit Net: a cord net fastened with a metal ring. Its label unfolded into a small booklet of recipes for oranges and lemons, adding an extra purpose to the packaging. The design connected local goods through a visual language that was practical, economical and full of colour.
