Willow Chair by Marcel Wanders
Marcel Wanders
Willow Chair, 1999
Woven from willow, the chair brings traditional basket-making into a modern design. Its broad base, high seat and tall back make it look almost like a throne. The natural material also links the object to Oranienbaum’s landscape, local crafts and history.
The Willo Chair was designed for Couleur Locale: Droog Design for Oranienbaum, a project commissioned by the Kulturstiftung Dessau-Wörlitz to support the cultural and economic revival of the historic German town.
The project was first shown at the Salone del Mobile in Milan in April 1999.
